HELP!
I’ve installed two items in to my new Mk5 09 Golf:-
VW OEM Bluetooth hands free kit

And a MFD2 unit : 1K0 035 198 C

My issue is the Mute button in the middle of the unit i thought was the Tel button as below.

My question is can i recode the Mute button and activate the Tele function to enable the control of the bluetooth module via the MFD2 controls.

The phone only works by playing the sound through the speakers, the unit mutes automatically but i have no control of the phone.

I have a VAG cable and have coded the units with no error codes; any help or insight would be gratefully received.

Thanks

no, you can't reprogram the mute button.

when the phone is in use, it will automatically mute the MFD2.

If you want to make a call, you use the phone.

Do you have the multifunction steering wheel? I don't.

But with your links, i have learnt something, i now know what the empty slot is next to the cd changer lead at the rear of my MFD2 is for..

I would be interested in reading the installation manual for the phone kit. Where do they say it should be mounted?

I do not have the same phone kit that you installed, there maybe other options available to you elsewhere in the MFD2. When the phone kit is recognised by the MFD2, hidden menus may become available.

I have used the multimedia port on mine, to access, i press the CD button and from that screen, there is an AUX option selectable below CD6 i believe (the 4th button down on the right hand side) There mabe a similar thing with the phone kit.

Thanks for the fast responce golfmk5gttdi,

I don’t have the MF s/wheel, and am a little annoyed that you have to use the phone to control the call, i could have stuck a parrot unit in at half the cost! How come VW have made the same unit MDF2 but in two versions, I know the CD vs DVD option but wish i had known about the Mute and Tele differences!

Research man, I need to do more research!!

when i was looking to buy my MFD2 i also noticed the difference in the button names, however, i wanted the silver buttons at they looked better.

I don't know what the differences are between the two units you pictured, certainly, the on you bought is the newer and better looking. Maybe the older looking on is the CD version.

I have a nokia CK-7W bluetooth phone kit out my old car, but never got round to fitting it for a couple of months after my MFD2, i also fitted a freeview tv tuner at the same time and an AV lead so i can view my phone menu system and videos and photos on the MFD2 screen (still controlled by phone). It has its own speaker and is the very basic of kits, it connects to the phone when the ignition goes on. It doesn't allow access to the phone book. I have to use the phone directly.

For the price you have paid, and judging by the way it connects to the Quadlock on the rear of the MFD2, i would fully expect to be able to scroll up and down the phonebook like you can when scrolling through streen names when entering in to the nav or selecting a radio station from the List menu.

Has it synchronised with your phones phone book? Does your phone allow this feature?

Sorry golfm5gttdi, just seen your edit,

Exactly the reason we liked the silver buttons, and its all genuine VW kit i was told from the dealers would interface together. Maybe im doing something wrong with the vag-com, might phone them tomorrow.

Check out this link, great install pictures.

http://www.octavia-vrs.com/technical/bluetooth.html

and the install instructions for the Bluetooth unit - its actualy a very easy install.

Yes my phone allows contact sync, and im hoping i just need to activate the hidden menus on the MFD2!

I'll have a closer read of that skoda instal another day, but at 1st glance it looked complex to say the least.

How long did the whole job take you to do.

I can't help whatsoever with vag com - i don't have it or should that be i don't yet have a lap top to put it on.

This is my guide for the MFD2 in the golf http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=21273
