In VCDS you have the auto scan to revert to if any changes made

ODIS does not need that as the OE configuration is stored by the VIN, VCDS needs to read and store the soft coding as it does not have factory backup.

With ODIS Software Version Management, SVM.

With Odis online account you can connect to vag servers and correct any coding. If you have a hacked version of Odis (offline) you will not be able to connect to servers for coding

With a free erWin account you can download all the ODIS system files for free including their entire software library (it is not complete in my experience) which is a 16Gb download on its own. There may be a way of using these files other than with ODIS but I don’t know, maybe another forum member does, as long as it is legal... I am a grease monkey not a computer techie, that is Mrs Crashers area of expertise and ODIS baffled her and my professional tech chap. To use ODIS legally, online and have security access is a complex process involving letters of recommendation from a professional, proof of business, passport and driving license copies and gaining a global VAG user ID and dealer number. Then you get issued your security dongle (shockingly these are free!!) then to use it online you need a genuine VAS6154a which when I bought mine from TPS was just under £1k plus you need a very capable large capacity Windows 10 lap top. The process of installing ODIS is painful and the UK phone backup non existent, they have been on permanent answerphone for over a year and emails often take weeks to be answered, if at all. I am taking advantage of the quiet times ahead next week to upgrade my ODIS to the new version which will only work on Win10 and it will me around two days from starting to download to connecting to the first car.... ohh and the service costs €10 per hour or €1760 per year, per brand of which there are five...

I understand all that I have a Erwin and just sent the form off with the vat and proofs etc

I am using a VMware at the min and believe the J2534 will be ok to use as European law stipulates the emissions can be altered with a J2534

And with the VM I have managed to code and adapt all modules using it

It is a GENUINE Bosch GM MDI as I have genuine online Vauxhall subscription too

I have read about other systems (not VCDS) having a “pass through” function but as I said, I am not a computer wizard although I have got quite adept at installing ODIS so if you struggle I may be able to help, the UK helpline won’t... you may even be able to help me!

I am hoping I can continue using my VM image and just get a login to work

I have enough trouble getting all the proper equipment to work, last week it was down for two days because the payment system was not working. A friend of mine who is also a VAG specialist has the full VAS diagnostic machine and he had to come over and use my laptop version the other week because the machine would not log in.
