Curious if anyone has tried doing this to the standard HID kit, I'm currently in the process of purchasing all the necessary parts as I have been told it is possible as long as the car has the adaptive cruise control option and assistance package. Also looking to upgrade stock sound system to the b&o

b&o will need a whole new front dash... aint worth it.

I have already ordered the B&O kit, new roof liner for the rear 2 speakers that need to be installed on the roof and the 2 front pillar trims. i was told the dash is fine, Why does dash need to be replaced? I know that the b&o have the speakers that rise up from the front 2 grills is that the reason for it needing a different dash?

Matrix lights have also been ordered and will arrive next week.

Hi. I have been pondering the b&o upgrade. Do you have any further information on parts required and also where you sourced the parts from? I have factory Bose. Any idea on coding and how to get around component protection that may be required?

I have an installer I'll be sending the car to called euro car upgrades (jku.com.au) so im not 100 percent about the programming at this stage as that whole wiring scheme freaked me out. I sourced all my parts from a company called gtvgroup.lt , they have an ebay page under the seller name of gtv-group this is the item i contacted him on via ebay and he sourced all the parts and sent me a paypal invoice
Audi Q7 2016 4M 3,0 TDI quattro *spare parts package* | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222515370441)

The items say they will arrive on the 23rd so i will know for sure if his parts are any good

I have the standard sound system and was told by my installer i definitely need the wire loom as that itself could cost over a grand in connectors etc. I think your bose system comes with the rear 2 ceiling speakers so i don't think you need to order the roof liner like i have and also had to order the A and B front pillars to house the additional front facing speakers.

I'd suggest waiting before purchasing anything until i receive all the products just to make sure they are of good quality.

Awesome, I need the headliner as Bose doesn't have speakers. Euro car upgrades wanted 17500 for the complete install.. out of of interest, how much were the parts and what is euro car upgrades wanting for install? Martin quoted me this recently from jku.

Yeah he couldn't find a bno system at the time but estimated roughly over 10k just for the speakers and no wiring. For all the parts there i paid 2900euro so about 4.6k, he hasnt yet quoted me for the install until he can see all the parts

Mate,

I'm in Sydney as well and am re-troffiting BOSE to my 2016 Q7. have you ordered or received the four microphones you need for Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). You will see four holes around the car for them. Without them you will get errors on the B&O.

Also, make sure JKU are aware of datasets to allow your existing MBI2 to talk to the b&O amp. are you upgrading from Audi Active sound (9VD) or BOSE (9VS)?

cheers

No mics in my headliner as BOSE has a single one in overhead light cluster (1 - in picture below). You should see four mic holes in the headliner you purchased. Actually, the MICs are most probably already installed as they are "semi" incorporated into the headline. Have a look at your headliner

The one in the light, is that a standard mic on all the cars or would that need to be upgraded i wonder. Installer has confirmed that the mics will still be in the headliner but forgot to ask him about that one in the light

I know its needed for BOSE. There are another two MICs but they are for the voice control stuff to the MIB. Just checked and yes you need it. This microphone goes to the b&O amplifier but it appears there other ANC do not so you might be all good...

BTW, do you have Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) working?

spyderboyant
20-06-2017, 05:52 AM
Then again the wiring diagrams say that the 4 additional microphones go back to the amp.... That's if the correct package was selected.. I reckon you should be sweet with the single microphone up front

Hi, thanks for the info. I am looking into b&o retrofit as well from Bose. I believe most of wiring will be in place except for motorise tweeters and anc mics perhaps. Do you have any further info on these data sets? I assume that Bose datasets won't do.

thanks,

Speakers arrived and so did the roof liner and whole car wiring loom. The headlights came with all the modules installed (so i have been told) i don't require anything else at this point. I will be sending the car off for install once my front grille and speaker trim arrives.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170705/ec142be2ef6eabae4392f05c76645cd4.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170705/fee98570deec7da496c595d8cf56529c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170705/dfea96d3036b6115cb58ea10727bde53.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170705/4ab91b1be97b4918ec46fa81e4a53039.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170705/11c7050dac03ac0d41fa452887f37ca6.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170705/5759c90e32a1e533cfb3421b8b01388e.jpg

Very nice, makes me glad that i have bose now and the speaker ports already in headliner. That package looks huge due to the roofliner.

i think my car will already have microphone in the headliner - they are for vehicle anc and i think b&o use those as well.

please keep us updated, i spoke to martin at jku as well and i plan to do most of the install myself and have jku do final coding.

Yeh so the roof liner didnt have the microphone ports, i think this roof liner is a bose one and not one for a b&o so will have to retrofit in the mics as i believe there are atleast 4 that need to be installed. The wiring looks tedious for b&o

hi,

wiring isn't difficult fomr bose to b&o but from standard system then it could be. I think that all q7 have the mic inbuilt, you won't see mic holes but they are there hidden away i think. I have reviewed all the wiring diagrams and there are not wires going to headliner for mic from the amp. The only microphone is the one front top above the centre dash - this is a single 2 wire connect and the part number is the same for bose and b&o.

i think you will just need that part - i can get out of etka if you need.

yeah, matrix is awesome, it was amazing seeing the system light up all parts of the road without blinding drivers in front or oncoming.

with the b&o covers, they are plastic welded so they will need to break this weld for your original covers and then use the right screws to put them back in

Fingers crossed they do a neat job, i ordered night vision to go with it as martin said they work hand in hand.

For the matrix lights do you have to keep turning on the automatic high beams everytime you start the car for it to do that feature?

hi, yes you need to turn them on by pushing the left stalk forward but not full forward. i am not sure how the systems go hand in had, the camera is thermal and how lit the road is up front has no bearing on it. i am considering night vision as well.

Just wondering, isn't it better to sell the car get a new one? Not discouraging but looks like it's world of jobs and taking the car apart bit by bit.
Also remember, some company will invalidate the insurance if not reported. According to them, after the car registration, whatever added could be considered as "modified" if not offered by the manufacturers for that particular model. At least mine one does (when I asked them to explain what does that "modified" means).

At least mine one does (when I asked them to explain what does that "modified" means).I've considered that but they were asking for 115k aud for new with bugger all options, no assistance pack or quad zone air, just an empty shell. I bought my car ex demo with ambient lighting, quad zone air, heated seats , assistance pack, active lane assist for under 100k as it had 6,000ks on it. To have the b&o from factory is a 15k option alone and for that money i bought all of these parts and had them installed if not for just a tad more than 15k. I just did a search now and there are no cars available with the bang and olufsen, its pretty rare.

spoke to my audi centre and they said wont void warranty as long as it doesn't interfere with the engine and i have a good relationship with the guy there.

Also rang my insurance this morning and told them about it all and they said its fine as long as i have receipts proving what was installed if something were to happen, im lucky because i can insure it for market value which covers more than the cost i put in for parts, off top of my head i think it was 135k for market value.

Ps considering massage seats which is apparently a 10k option but found it for 2k. Does anyone have them installed, keen to know if its worth buying or not

i'm not 100% sure, i did however recently buy two sets for q7 4m softclose on ebay including the door latch, motors, motor holders, wiring looms. the front door latches are lhd/rhd specific so you will need rhd part numbers.

This is all great work and great to see the progress but I have to ask, and please don't misunderstand the context of me asking but surely these major changes can't be cheap (parts / delivery / labour etc) so could you have not got the car with it all fitted from factory as apposed to retrofitting it all?

Not being rude at all in asking just curious if your happy to share.

Sent from my SM-G928F using TapatalkBrand new q7 starts around 115k with bare chassis here in Australia, the bno is 12k option, massage seats 15k, matrix lights roughly 4500k, so that was out of the question. I couldn't find any ex demo's with the options I wanted it would either have one or the other. I visited almost every Audi dealer here with them suggesting to wait until they had their dealer auctions and they would try to find me a car with no guarantee of what options it had which I thought was pretty stupid...

I got lucky with my q7 having the adaptive cruise control, ambient lighting, convenience pack and the quad zone climate control for the price I paid for it. so far what I've spent it still works out cheaper by a long shot but at the same time this is my first time modding a car to this extent and its turned in to a dangerous hobby but at least it keeps me busy and I really enjoy looking for that next part and learning new things.

Just for reference here is a car I found on carsales with just matrix lights, sunroof and acc, 130k

Wowzers, I didn't realise the base car is so expensive... And even just the SE variant... Dread to think what an SQ7 is...

I see your thinking now and I can concur as someone who does retrofitting it can be at times pretty daunting but very rewarding ... But you are using a reputable company to do the work which is a great move.

Have you spoken to your dealer about any post work warranty concerns or what about potential car insurance issues?

Your tenacity is admirable.

Yeah I spoke to my dealer and he said it's fine but anything that was added they just won't cover it under warranty but he was more curious to know if all these retrofits were possible especially the matrix lights

I was offered last week an ex demo sq7 from same dealer for 165k, again didn't have many options

The installer said the lights start up, does its sequence flash and then drops out 40secs after.

Start checking on T14e pin 5 and T14d pin 5 connectors, this is where the main fan gets the earth connection.

There is an additional fan built in the light (called Fan 2 on the wiring diagramm), this fan is built into the light unit, you cannot get it separetly.

To the OP - good on you for taking on such a big project!

Is the car back up and running / on the road now? Has there been a blow out in costs or timeframes compared to what you were originally expecting?

Are you having to 'to and fro' between Sydney and Maroochydore? Or are you using a Sydney workshop to do any of the work?

Any other comments on the process for anyone else contemplating doing any of the same mods?

Still haven't got the car back due to the issue with the matrix lights being left hand drive and Audi not wanting to calibrate them until it shows as a right hand drive set so kind of stuck at the moment. Will have news on Monday on what the go is.

When I get the car back and if I run in to any issue I'm sure I can get them to remotely log in and fix any errors that may arise rather than sending the car up to Maroochydore and back.

I'm dying to hear the sound system and try out those massage seats, I'm almost at the point of giving up on the matrix lights and having the hids put back in

Do you know the part number for the headlights? Are they 4M0 (universal), 4M1 (LHD) or 4M2 (RHD)? That should give you an indication of whether they can be coded to suit.

If there are 4M1 and 4M2 derivatives, there is obviously a hardware difference between the two that coding alone won't be able to fix/rectify.

More than likely a default difference in the beam pattern.

Not sure about Australia but in the UK or Europe you'd certainly be much better off selling and buying a similar car with the options you really want.

Options added later won't show up on the Audi official vehicle spec and therefore won't be included in a resale value unless selling privately. Clearly if you can successfully fit the add ons yourself to high Audi factory standards then you will save all those expensive labour hours. Even still you have to be very keen and have large pockets to go down this road.

Good luck in any case....

Hey does anyone have matrix lights from factory, the installer can't seem to get the fog lights to turn on on the actual headlight, was wondering if I could copy your code?

Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

Hey, interesting read! Did you get the installers to see whether VAG Can Pro might be able to see whether LHD or RHD is a dataset in the light controllers? If such, they should be able to change them between LHD and RHD. It might however not be possible as it may be a physical thing. What you need to remember with headlights is that for the low-beam, it needs to be focused such on-coming traffic won't be blinded yet you have sufficient illumination in front of you. With the old bi-xenon lights on the Q7 4L, it was a shutter that had a cutaway that blocked the beam from blinding on coming traffic. High-beam was the shutter flapping up and not blocking any of the beam. Its interesting with Matrix LED lights in that Audi claim that

XENON HEadlight - Main beam Changes over dipped beam using shutter
LED Headlight: Adaptation for driving on the opposite side of the road: It is not necessary to adapt the headlights. No further action is needed in order to meet the statutory requirements.
LED Matrix: SAME as LED Headlight..

Having said that, I think when the low-beam is on, I can see a shutter pattern (ie beam cuts away on the right hand light to not blind oncoming traffic).

Im really over it and just want the car back but at the same time I really want matrix lights as they make the car quite sexy and give it that aggressive look and also where I live it would come in handy.

Have you got your car back now and is it working? Its crazy they don't use the standard 4M1 for LHD lights and 4M2 for RHD lights but the PR code for driving on the left and right. I thought it might have been as simple as replacing the control module but they aren't lhd or rhd variants!!! damn.

The update as far as I'm aware is that the matrix lights are installed and awaiting to be calibrated but they are having issues with the E-Tron drls and actually I'm not sure if they got the fog lights to work on the matrix headlights yet, I'll call them and find out shortly

E-tron as well - wow. The issue here might be that fact you will need the correct light controllers on the back of your matrix lights to support the e-tron DRLs. They have an additional 2 pins to support these DRLs (pins 13 and 14 on the 14 pin connector). The part number is 4M0 907 397 "AD" and was released in 2015 when e-tron came out. If this is not the case definitely let us know what the issue is... I have seen some Russian retrofitting sites showing successful etron DRL retrofits. You also needed a new grill as well I take it for the e-tron DRLs?

On a side note, your LED lighting around your a/c vents, is it red? I thought it was supposed to be white?

BTW Are they your old RHD lights on ebay being sold by the installer? ;-)

He ordered the matrix lights specifically for E-Tron capability so I'm sure it has the pins but I'll forward your message to him, he currently has some Russians logging in to do the coding but they did mention wiring. Oh and yeh ordered the new grilles for the E-Tron lights which he already has with him so it can fit the acc module as well as the E-Tron lights

I have the ambient lighting package, I think he may have set it to red

Those are definitely the old matrix lights but those were the lhd version that Audi didn't want to touch

will definitely be coding or some wiring if others have it working.... They just need to compare to a car that has them and whether its an adaption channel versus long coding. So E-Tron is working now minus fog in matrix lights?

RED makes sense if you have ambient lighting package (PR-QQ2 and not standard PR-QQ1). Did you get that retrofitted as well or did it come with the car? Are you getting ACC retrofitted as well? I am going to retrofit the ambient lighting package but its painful as you can get most things except for the ambient lighting in the door as you need the correct door cards. I am going to try and fit 3mm perspex rod in my door card to see what it looks like. I have no interest in replacing my current door cards.

Tezargh

E-Tron still not working Russians will jump on that tonight and hoping maybe they can check fog lights as well.

I had ambient lighting from factory, I knew that it would be more difficult finding the parts for that and all the trim etc so didn't bother and also I had acc from factory also

Be sure to show some pics of your retrofit of the ambient lights, is your car lhd or rhd?

Its just timings. Q7 were the first to have sweeping indicators on the rear lights. New A4s can have both. My thoughts are the facelift that will be coming out "soonish" for the Q7 4M will have the option for sweeping indicators on the front and most probably the new "laser" matrix front lights... Remember, whenever audi release a vehicle, it generally introduces a new technology. Like the latest TT, it was the first to have the virtual cockpit... then the tech flows into the next releases of other models. Radical technology is generally released with the A8

that's strange.... I know there are "parameter" sets for the headlight controllers as they are available with VAG CAN Pro (VCP). In the ZIP they have the following flash files:

Q7_4M0907379AC_AD_LED_MXB_LEFT.flash
Q7_4M0907379AC_AD_LED_MXB_RIGHT.flash
Q7_4M0907379AC_AD_LED_USA_LEFT.flash

Q7_4M0907379AC_AD_XENON_USA_LEFT.flash

cool. So he gave up on taking it to the dealer for calibration?... Has the calibration been successful? I thought there was some radar stuff that needed to be done at the same time if you have ACC?

Also on the fog lights (all weather lights), reading SSP634 it states "In models equipped with xenon headlights, the onboard power supply control unit J519 activates the gas discharge lamps and the lamps for the fog lights via discrete lines. In addition, J519 provides for a supply of voltage via discrete lines and for communication with the L/H and R/H control units for light control J1018/J1023 via a sub-bus system."

Makes me think there might be a difference in the wiring...

Looking in ElsaWIN, the Matrix headlights have a special calibration tool - VAS 5209B- or VAS 621 001. I don't know whether the approach above will work but will be interested to see whether it does? I know you used to use a similar pattern to calibrate the rear view camera on older Audi'sie Q7 4L (the pattern was placed flat on the ground at the back of the car and a certain distance from the wheels and the calibration test was run from ODIS - no online access required)

spyderboyant
23-03-2018, 02:37 AM
They will then need to connect to ODIS online and run a validation of the lights which should see they are missing the parametrization data and then download it to the control modules.

I'm sure VCP can get this info if they ask...

Looking again at those tools, they just provide an "angle" value that you then manually add to ODIS that feeds it back into J519 (controller) that then most probably feeds into the headlight control modules..

Its because the low/dipped beam still have "cut-offs" to stop blinding on coming traffic. Nothing to do with high beam I think. google images of headlight shutter patterns and you will see. with LHD lights, the shutter pattern will block out on the left hand light which wont help oncoming traffic which is what it's purpose it.

Martin looked tired ;-) I love the... "I will fit anything but not Matrix" headlights LOL

What was the last sensor related error? You went from standard Bi-xenon to LED Matrix correct?. I have standard LED and am going to put in the Matrix headlights but not Etron. I will test them on top of the existing ones for errors.

Re LHD and RHD variants, it has nothing to do with the Matrix high beam as its to do with the low beams and them having LHD or RHD "physical" cutoffs to stop blinding on coming traffic. Its funny with the new Q7 that they didn't use the 4M1 for LHD and the 4M2 for RHD codes. Most probably not wanting people to retrofit them I guess.

For those out there wanting to install Etron signature lights, you need new headlight controllers unless you have 2016+ headlights. You also need to get new headlights that have the two pins from the external headlight plug to the headlight controller through the headlight housing. Unfortunately if your headlight is missing these two wires you will need to (a) pull your headlight apart to add them - very difficult (b) drill a hole through the cover for the headlight controller and manually add them. Seal the hole with silicon. Re coding, I don't know but its interesting that Tezargh's installer needed some Russians to do it remotely. Makes me think it could be a dataset thing or an adaption channel that needs a security code?!??!. I suppose someone that has an etron would be able to provide the adaption channels and coding for J519 and the headlight controller that drives the Etrons.

For those interested in the Q7 Matrix upgrade, you definitely need "additional" LWR (Headlight Auto-levelling sensors) on the front axles. It appears that for LED and the standard lights (xenon), Audi only install the auto-levelling sensors on the rear axle. What confused me was that the PR codes on an LED headlight car and a Matrix LED headlight car are the SAME (FAMILY:LWR / PR-8Q3: Automatic headlight range adjustment dynamic (self-adjusting while driving)). This made me assume that I had the front sensors. so to be certain, I accessed J393 and found that I DIDN'T have the 3 wires for the front auto-levelling sensor.. damn. Good thing is, the sensor is the same as the A4 (8W) one so they are readily available on ebay germany. Part 4M0 907 504 A => which is now superseded to the specific Q7 4M left and right hand side ones: 4M0 941 285 C (left side) & 4M0 941 286 C (right side). I think 4M0 907 504 A was only every LEFT hand side... So if you have air-suspension, you will need specific right hand side sensors!

referring to the wiring diagrams, the auto-levelling sensors either go back to the J393 BCM2 (Body control Module 2) in the boot (left hand side under rear fuse box) or if you have air-suspension they run back to J774 Chassis control unit. This is where it gets interesting, with standard suspension, you only need a rear left hand side sensor and a front left hand side sensor (so 2 sensors in total). If you have air-suspension, then you need four sensors, one for every wheel arch...

From a coding point of view, it appears you need to code the J393 for the additional front sensor(s) [or J774 if you have air suspension], the front camera A5 and finally J519 (BCM1) which controls the headlights. From a calibration point of view, as soon as you configure A5 for Matrix lights it will want to be calibrated. This can be done with the calibration board schematics that are avaialble on the forum. Then J519 needs to be calibrated which requires specialist calibration kit found at the dealers workshop.

Also remember, when getting Matrix Headlights, make sure you get either LHD or RHD versions. They are NOT THE SAME. The low beam cut-off is different on both. As I have posted earlier, the lights unfortunately share the same neutral 4M0 part number. Its the final letter that determines whether they are LHD or RHD versions... I don't know why there is a different versoin for PHEV cars as I thought all electronics were still 12V? For non-etron, you want the PR-0K0 version of the headlight as well.

Here are some part numbers with associated PR codes:

4m0 941 783 - Left Headlight (PR-AV1 + 0K0,0K4) ** Driving on RIGHT
4m0 941 783 C - Left Headlight (PR-AV1 + 0K3) ** Driving on RIGHT
4m0 941 783 A - Left Headlight (PR-AV0 + 0K0, 0K4) ** Driving on LEFT
4m0 941 783 D - Left Headlight (PR-AV0 + 0K3) ** Driving on LEFT

4m0 941 784 - Right Headlight (PR-AV1 + 0K0,0K4)
4m0 941 784 C - Right Headlight (PR-AV1 + 0K3)
4m0 941 784 A - Right Headlight (PR-AV0 + 0K0, 0K4)
4m0 941 784 D - Right Headlight (PR-AV0 + 0K3)

Family: LRV (driving on the left/on the right)
PR-AV0 - Driving on the LEFT
PR-Av1 - Driving on the RIGHT

Family: ASY (Alternative drive system)
PR-0K0 - Without alternative drive system
PR-0K3 - Hybrid propulstion system PHEV

PR-8IT - LED headlamps

Hey Tezargh,

You have factory fitted ambient lighting (PR-QQ2) in your Q7? On the individual colour settings, do you have purple as a selectable colour on the far left? I have retrofitted but don't appear to have the same colour palette as the cars in the UK/Europe.

Hi Mate, sorry for late reply. i only have vag can pro, i can send you a scan if that helps. not sure how i can do admap captures. i have also been busy retrofitting bang and olufsen, did it completely to factory spec with all wiring done properly under the carpet, along proper channels and pinned properly. it all works great :)

That would be great. B&O...nice. Did you have BOSE or standard MIB2 amp? If standard MIB2 thats quite a bit of wiring... I went from Standard to BOSE. Any need to update dataset settings on 5F?

Ok, I'll go out tomorrow and do some scans etc.

I had factory Bose, purchased all the components overseas and the seller provided full Q7 main loom and door wiring. I also purchased a dash loom from a B&O car. I removed all the wiring and we ran it all through the car via the factory channels. We didn't reuse any bose wiring as it would have just been too much of a pita to keep half of it and run others as b&o wiring was thicker.

We also ran a 8mm power from the same main fuse at the battery that runs factory b&o and added the 50amp fuse as per factory, i got the fuse and holder from donor loom. fortunately the door wiring from donor car supported pr-qq2 so we just swapped them over and repinned the rear door lock connectors as australian cars don't have safelock and donor car had it.

As for 5f, i don't believe that it was required. I powered on after wiring and the amp just started working although cp was only allowing the left side and no sub to operated. My contact in poland removed cp and all was good. I didn't get any dataset issues before he removed cp, i reckon this is because i already had bose.

It was a big job and thanks to my mate gerard who help out greatly.

Wow, big job. You would have had to pull our seats and dash to get the OEM loom into the car?? As BOSE is in the back of the car I would have thought you would have used the majority of the existing wiring as B&O only adds a couple more speakers. I've half done BOSE and was trying to use the cabling to the MIB2 with a jumper cable I made to take the speaker cables from the MIB2. It is painful so thinking I'll just run new cables direct from the doors and front of car to the amp... lots of cloth tape BUT at least I know and can test the installation a speaker at a time. Will need to cut the headliner for the top rear surround speakers but there are marks in the liner where they must press the holes out for B&O and BOSE at the factory that makes the headliners.

Anyway, nice one. I'll use my VCP this morning and see whether I can find where the dataset info for the different controllers turns up.

Is the sound that much better with B&O than BOSE? I suppose you can now sell your BOSE with full loom which would be appealing for retrofitters... Did you take pictures as you went?

1st and second row seats removed, part of the rear centre console to access rear part of carpet so it could be folded up. we used all b&o wiring as wire sizes were different. the 4 additional speakers are two in the roof and 1 each in the rear doors. how are you planning to run the cables? the factory wires run up over left wheel down to just in front of 2nd row, from there it either goes straight ahead for front left speakers, centre and mic or turns right for the right b pillar and right front. the diag green/purple wire also goes up to the front via the right. i used 4 x 25m tesa cloth tape. you can get the bose and b&o grills as spare parts and the clamping washers. I am just about to order the b&o ones as roof has extra speaker that won't fit into bose cutout.

the sound is leaps and bounds over bose, i did a side by side comparison between mine and my mate gerards who pretty much did the trim removal, seat removal for me. i don't have the factory loom as it isn't possible to cut that out of the main loom without a lot of effort and too high risk to damage other wires. I don't have many pictures apart from one with the whole car apart. if you need any specific information on running of wires etc then happy to discuss and help with pinning them through doors etc.

Hey Andy, yeah i had to cut open a loom that i got from the motherland to carefully extract all the b&o cabling, fortunately i already had bose so most bus was already in the back and the other wire was the diagnostics purple/green wire. I got access to this from the original bose connection. I have to give credit to my mate gerard who did the trim removal and did the b&o grill extraction from the donor car. There is a factory method of renewing the grills by drilling them out and then using a 3.5mm screw.

As for the dataset, i don't believe that i needed them as i switched on the car right after i got all speakers hooked up and the system started working immediately with no errors in 5f. i did only have the left speakers working due to CP, this was resolved once CP was removed. I would imagine that datasets are required if going from a non bose audio vehicle.

Hey Booba,

you wouldnt happen to have matrix lights and steel springs (ie no air suspension) would you? Going to retrofit as well but want to double check the coding for J519 [BCM1] and J393 [BCM2]

On a side note, I had to update my dataset in J519 to get the correct menu's for ambient lighting. All working now thanks to VCP... Strange that there is a default setting on J519 which isn't compatible with q7.

Maaate,

thats quite a spec'd up car. Did you order it new or did you get is second hand? You rarely see rear heated seats or sublinds or all wheel steering. I dont know how you would get on in BNE with heated seats ;-)

Damn, I have 20+ q7 4M VCDS scans and only one, a retrofit, with Matrix and steel springs!

I wasn't going to go down the ambient lighting path but Andy suggested it as he likes it. There is quite a bit of work and lots of pieces. The biggest PITA is the fact you cannot get the ambient background strips for the doors (and the wiring diagrams and factory info are cryptic - but I sorted all that out now). You need to purchase new doors cards $$$. Having said that I have shaped some perspex rods in their place and they work fine (not as good as the original however). I have the silver top/dark silver bottom trim and have just got some brushed aluminium trim so will be selling quite a bit of the ambient lighting with the silver finish so if your mate is interested let me know. He will need:

a. Drivers vent with light strip. RHD variant
b. passenger AC vent with light strip - expensive. RHD variant (I bought a LHD ambient from ebay.de and RHD standard LED ebay.co.uk and swapped the LEDs) *** Note LEDs are internally numbered. You need the correct ones for J519 to send colour info to them! They are on a LIN BUS
c. Light strips for side of centre console (they fit into existing centre console). Need to purchase
d) top centre console with light strip and RGB LED. RHD variant required (I'll be selling one of these - silver colour)
e) back light strip for back of centre console (I'll be selling this with above)
f) exit warning door panels (x4) << If you have exit warning/side assist you already have the correct ones.
g) 4 x LEDs for exit warning strip (I'll be selling 2 of these)
h) 4 x RGB LEDs for door ambient/background lighting (I'll be selling 4)
i) 4 x makeshift perspex rods to go into door for above LEDs (I'll be selling 4 of these)
J) Vag Can Pro (VCP) to download updates to dataset to J519 to instuct 5F on ambient light settings for Q7 4M (Yes J519 tells 5F over CAN). Once I updated my dataset on J519 the menu changed in 5F to the correct one!

then the looms..... Power for lights and also LIN bus come from J519 at bottom of passengar a-pillar. This needs to be run around car.. since you did B&O it shouldnt be that difficult.

No worries. That was a cool spec'd car. I purchased mine May 2016 and was an ex-dealer car also with 4-zone AC, Audi tablets (pretty rare), LED lights, 200Kw, assistance package. Was just missing ambient lighting, Bose and Matrix lights.

I have retrofitted:
1) ambient lighting now but need to install the illuminated door sills (I have some of these to sell as well ;-) ) and door handle apron lighting
2) Phone Box (wireless charging)
3) BOSE - 50% - going to re-run cabling as was using the standard cabling going to MBI2 but hard to troubleshoot. Need to remove headliner and cut holes for speaker grilles and install the grilles.
4) chipped - 240Kw

To be done:
1) Night Vision (have parts. Controller installed under passenger seat. Just need to install camera - will do with Matrix Lights).
2) Matrix Lights (have lights, wiring done except for front sensor to J393 - have parts and front left LWR sensor installed)
3) HUD (have dash and HUD)
4) Soft close doors. (have parts - need to install)

Would love:

My todo right now is pretty much soft close, i have all the parts, just need to do it at some point.

I know... ;-) HUD can be installed (and needs to be installed) by removing the dashpanel as you need to install its brackets and the mounting points underneath dash. Myabe my windscreen gets cracked and gets replaced with insurance ;-)
.
On NV, you need some cat6 twisted pair (a pair) and run from Virtual Cockpit to controller underneath passenger seat. Twisted pair has same characteristics as flexRay cable... I just need to run the loom for front left sensor to J393 prior to installing Matrix at which time I will install NV.

For those interested in this upgrade and with standard suspension. The following two bytes need changing (after installing front left level sensor)

J393: Byte17: Bit 0-1: sensor_headlight_range_control_installed: [03] - front and rear (*other options [00] - no sensors [01] - front [02] - rear (LED and BiXenon default)

I can confirm that when I made the change to [02] without the front sensor installed I instantly get an "open circuit to front left level sensor" in J393

** Air suspension = [00] - no sensors (as information comes from J774 chassis control unit)

J519: Byte30: Bit 1-3: Chassis_sensor_config : [0C]=raw_chassis_values_bcm2_2FNS from [0A]=raw_chassis_values_bcm2_1FNS <<< change from 1 sensor to 2 with info coming from BCM2 = J393!

On air suspension cars the sensor information comes from the chassis control unit 774. J519 in this instance is coded with: [08]=raw_chassis_values

*Note: I note from the config from another car that had matrix lights retroffited (and I was told it worked without errors), did have J519 changed and the front left sensor installed but J393 still had [02] - Rear coded. This doesn't make sense to me and I'm going to code correctly with front and rear. J393 needs to have its coding changed to reflect that it has that additional sensor.

Ps considering massage seats which is apparently a 10k option but found it for 2k. Does anyone have them installed, keen to know if its worth buying or not

My 2017 S5 has the massage seats, I occasionally mess with them but most of the time forget that it even has them.

I'm back onto my Matrix headlight retrofit. I currently have the following errors. Has anyone else tried the Matrix retrofit? Wondering whether there might be a "dataset" update required on J519 as I am getting an error on A5 talking of "false coding" for the headlights + basic settings (which makes sense). On J519 I also get a "received error" off the databus (which would be the direct Flexray from A5 to J519 I reckon". I think this is the error from A5 camera. I need to find out what this "false" coding error is... Looking closely I see that the databus errors are both for U1123...

Continuing, I have now realised the source of the errors are the high beam light controllers D6 and D7 (as seen below). These errors are thrown onto the bus and received by J519 and A5 camera and reported as "databus receive errors". I definitely now believe that this is a dataset issue between J519 and these controllers as my car has standard LED headlights and when talking to the matrix headlight controllers (came with the lights), it thinks it is talking to the standard LED ones (although the coding has been changed correctly) and the controllers are complaining. VCP have an option in the dataset update for J519 for LED_MXB.

Datasets are making retrofits harder and harder as this is how the same components can be used in multiple car chassis ...

Hello Tezargh,

Did you upgraded you car\s headlights from xenon? Can you tell me which parts exactly necessary for upgrade to MATRIX? Also to ACC if you did that? What was the issue with fog lights? Why there was a problem with start lighting the fog lights?

That's a lot of work. Well done!

Does the coding work for the '19 Q8 as well for matrix headlights & tails?

I need some help, my matrix daytime running lights are stuck in the dim mode (how they look when your headlights are turned on) and not going full brightness when headlights are off. Does anyone know where the coding is for that or better yet someone who has matrix lights by standard that can send me their scan?

Would be greatly appreciated
