I have a 2010 golf gti and I can’t figure what’s wrong. Once it’s up to temp (oil and water) it develops a stutter/misfire at 1400-1600 rpm. It says engine fault visit workshop and the EPC light comes on and goes off.

We had it plugged into vcds and it came up with

16725/P0341/000833 – Camshaft position sensor (G40) : implausible signal

I swapped this sensor out with a new one and cleared the codes and It's still the same and saying the same code on the laptop :/

Swapped out the spark plugs and coilpacks see if that cured it but still the same.

It idles perfectly as normal. It starts fine and above 1600rpm it's fine!!

My 1.4 twin charger was terrible for it. My garage originally diagnosed it as carbon build up. Due to low cylinder compression.
Flushed the oil and terra cleaned it which certainly helped but was still a bit lumpy whi I accelerated hard from 1500-2000 rpm so changed the coils and now it runs like new. So I'm guessing a combination of a gunked up engine plus knackered coils. I see you've already done the coils. Might be worth a flussh now.
There's a lot of different thing people have had diagnosed but that's what has worked for me.

The fault suggests a cam chain wear problem, typical of older EA888 engines.

If you've eliminated the sensor as a fault and the car drives fine, you may want to look into the actuator controlling oil flow to the variable valve timing pulley if the screens on it are clear and not filled with debris it may be failing and when the engine requests the timing change it doesn't register with the sensor because the actuator hasn't done anything or not enough, so the ECU blames the sensor for incorrect information.
