Hi Boman

You can't "Code" VIM like you could in older Audi's with a serial number generator. Its a direct write into the EEPROM. The cheapest way to enable VIM is with an ODBEleven device and buy the option for 10 Euros. This is what I did and works.

VCP also does it but is more expensive.

It can't be done in VCDS. Its impossible.

Hi Andy, once it's enabled through ODBEleven, is it permanently set? I've read some conflicting info. One thing I read was it cost 100 credits to use it each time. Another was that it didn't cost you again but you have to enable it through the ODBEleven each time you want to use it.

No mate, thats all rubbish. Once its set , its set. Only if Audi re-applied the firmware to your MMI unit in the glove box (which would only occur if they stuck an SD card update in your MMI unit) would it potentially reset, but even then it might not.

Otherwise no. Its permanent.

I've found what to change to get the VC to display SQ7 dials
In module 17 go into long coding
Then change vehicle variant to "derivative 2"
Apply changes
Come out of long coding
Choose reset
Then hard reset
And hey presto!

Nice one Wolek! Haven't had a chance to get out to the car yet...

Be good for folk to try this because I believe it'd also firmware level dependant. So may work for some folk but not for others depending on the software level on the virtual cockpit.

you can also change MMI startup screen to display SQ7 logo:
in module 5F long coding, change "byte_18_Screenings" from 27 to 28, reboot MMI.

I suspect this is down to firmware as I'm 99% sure if you aren't version 0300 or higher on the Vc cockpit (not the mmi) then it's possible. I'm on 0274 but working on getting the firmware to update it.

0302 is the current latest. (Etron has this version)

You're right and wrong at the same time Srbsq7.
My first 4M was delivered in April but apart from being white nothing else matched the spec I wanted (I think dealers thought I wouldn't notice???).
But because I sold the old 4L and needed something to get about I agreed to to keep it until they built me another another one that matched my specs.
So by mid July I had another new 4M that matched my specs.
I do know that the guy who sold me the wrong one got sacked.

Wolek - glad they sorted it for you. I remember when I placed my order that there seems to be a lot of rekeying of info between systems as I remember worrying that they'd missed an option so checked it all several times and then again on youraudi during the build process. Still ended up with badge deletion that I never ordered! When I saw it, I was actually quite happy with it so didn't get it fixed.

I think my OBD mods are:

- CD Ripping to Jukebox
- Needle Sweep
- ACC default distance menu
- Switch off speed for park assist - was 10, now 20 kph
- Beep on door lock / unlock
- Enable lock when engine running
- Seat Belt Warning (App set to USA)
- DRL Menu (App set to ON)

General rule of thumb is electrics on but engine not running for any coding work, including removing VIM.

I've already tried to change the chanel IDE01170- Visual display for park assist (inside INTRUMENT 09 - ADAPTATION), but nothing happened.

It's the tablet settings.
Once you're in the list of installed apps press and hold on obd11 icon and menu should pop up. Drag your finger to app info and you'll get the option of clearing data, cache etc...

There is always the "ballistic" option of uninstalling and reinstalling the app...
It helped with Andy's phone back in MK meet....

If you can get into the 'long coding' but not the 'coding' section, you could always enable it the way I did by going to Byte 9 and ticking Bit 7. I didn't have the info I posted in my previous screenshot when I enabled it this way so I know it works.

Just wanted to say thank you for your work and time in posting these mods on here.

So far I've used the info to program my ODBEleven to do the Needle Sweep, Tailgate opening delay ( set this way to high initially and it wouldn't open, sorted now though) , ACC distance setting (very useful) , the lock / unlock chirps and flashes , CD ripping in the MMI, parking camera speed increase , DRL on / off option. I've also done the window drop mod which seems to work well for me, enabled Automatic PDC Front, 360 camera view with the OPS and the "tourist" option on the headlights (although not sure I need this with matrix led headlights?)

Tried to do the sunroof one to change the stop point, but got a "Description Data not found" error on Module CA - will try again another day. Also intend to modify the threshold of when the lane assist shuts off

Anyhow, thank you again to all who have contributed to this thread!

Enable lock with engine running is the only other one I'd suggest from your long list! Hopefully we're done on the need for the next 9 months though!

Hi everybody,
My Q7 4M have only Audi sound system, it very terrible, bass sound very weak.
Stock system have small subwoofer (6.5") installed under 3th seats row, I have changed by 6.5" subwoofer 6w3v3-4 JL audio but bass sound not more change.
In sound setting on MMI, only increase/decrease treble and bass switch, don' have subwoofer switch volume. Can I enable subwoofer switch volume via coding?

Hi Tuan, welcome

I dont think enabling just the "Subwoofer" option will be possible solely using coding I'm afraid. Maybe if you could find a way to tell the MMI unit you have the Bose system installed it may then show the Subwoofer option, but it still might not work.

New to this Forum and want to say thank you for sharing valued information.

Actually I have VCDS for a long time and used with many Audis and enjoyed making all these adaptations for a better performance of our cars ..lot of joy too.

Currently I do own a Q7 4M 2016 located in South America and it is coming without the Audi connect service , but all is in it. ( MMI) Just not activate de DATA connection for the SIM slot card.

Somehow I have managed to get into the adaptation channel ( 5F ) and made available the Audi Connect app , Audi Smart Phone interface ( non functional as it is coded and seen here) and other cool staff related to adaptation channel but till now can not make the SIM card to be activated - it is greyed out in the MMI screen

Of course I subscribed My Audi page and have all the codes legal as a formal user but still not able the SIM to connect the network ( it does fully work on an iPhone)

Anyone has any info about 5F Long coding helper related to the SIM activation or network availability ? VCDS
I do appreciate any help as well any info you may need from my side I am willing to help ( my product here in South America perhaps is different coded and with different equipment attached to it for the different market but many options also are coded for this market )

Hi from New Zealand.

I love reading what you guys get up to! I have a RossTech HEX + Can USB cable & the latest VCDS update 17.1.3.0.

I have just taken ownership of a UK SQ7, this is new & was shipped to NZ. I was advised that the dealer (Non Audi) would be able to get the New Zealand Maps working & they have to some extent. I have however discovered a few problems with this import process.

1) Although the Maps are visible in the central display & the HUD, the Map display is blank on the "Virtual Cockpit" (I can see the area designated for this but it is blank), the dealer is working on this.
2) The car has four Cameras but these fail to display any video on central screen - the reversing lines are there & adjust to the steering wheel rotation. Can anyone help?
3) The option to recognise speed signs says "Not available in this country" - Well the NZ based SQ7 that I test drove, certainly had it working (wish I had interrogated it & saved the scan ;-)) - I suspect that the NZ codes are based on Australia & this car has likely been coded to "Rest of the world" BUT I cant make head nor tail of the codes as the RosTech software is missing the helper files & RossTech say they May post these sometime.

Why bye an imported SQ7 - Simple - Cost - For the cost of a NZ Basic SQ7 ex Demo - I was able to get a number of extra options (Performance Package, Rear Entertainment package, Panorama roof, etc) worth about NZ$25k & I was offered NZ$10K more for my old Q7 as trade-in.

I have also purchased the VIN specific Vehicle maintenance Manual - this oddly does not seem to offer any advise on coding.

It's all more than just basic coding we believe (been working on it for a guy in Oz). It's all about the loaded 'dataset' and then coding on top... Hard nut to crack but a dealer should be able to do it in my opinion.

is it possible to reverse the behaviour of the main MMI rotary control on an A6 (model year 2012) ?

ie the rotary controller works in the reverse way to what is logical when I want to scroll a list or zoom the map!

Yeah Boot Lid is definitely new wonder if it therefore gives you the option to close with ign off OR give Papereyes and I some new functionality...

Good idea. I am interested in "Air Recirculation memory" how it is done, but I do not have ODBeleven, but an other tool to code.

Also what is "Favourit button menu"? I have this menu in my car to choose what the * button to do on the steering wheel. The app adds something to the factory menu?

I actually tried the boot option in OBD11 and for me it came back with "not supported" prompt. :(
I havent got the advanced key option and I blame that as the main reason...
Also, while on subject of available apps for our cars...
my personal belief is that all the options that are at 10credist price seem to be achievable by just coding/adaptations combo
Only the ones priced at 100credits are ones that require some proprietary wizardry and possibly some coding....
That's my humble opinion only.....

Look at the front grilles of your car. If you have these, you have the equipment for ACC and therefore you should have Pre-sense front (you can have these radar sensors and NOT have ACC but they are used for pre-sense front).. if you don't have them, then you don't have ACC so you can't have Pre-Sense Front.

You'll have Pre-Sense City which is camera based off the camera in your windscreen (which is standard on UK cars)

You'll have standard cruise control.. Just not adaptive version. Not really anything on the camera... At least that we have figured.

It's a while since I did it but I configured mine using OBD11 using Andy's info. I think there's a post somewhere in this thread when I did it as I didn't have to make many changes. I have configured a single chirp on lock and unlock.

The adaption part was okay but I cannot get the extra line in the MMI settings (for the sound) appeared and that's due to coding is not done, I believe.

This is what i did - found the post from last year:

Enabled the single chirp on lock & unlock so only needed to do these 3 steps from your instructions:

1) Enable the "Tone when Locking" option in the MMI by checking byte 4 / bit 6 - great that you can just turn off in the MMI
2) Enable adaptation "beep_at_opening"
3) Set adaptation "beeptime_opening_central_locking" to "single_beep"

I put this howto together for enabling the ripping cd's to jukebox but should help with screenshots on how to do the long coding:

I think ODE11 s/w has changed - I don't seem to see any 'Coding' but only 'Long Coding'.
Now, I see the 'byte' thingy under the long code for 'Information control Unit' (your CD ripping example) but not for 'Control Module Comfort System (46)' at all.

I know some people have had issues which clearing the cache for OBD has solved. I had one with a different module and the support guys suggested it and it worked:

After clearing the cache and reinstalling the s/w, the 2nd page with Bit/Byte came up and lock/unlock chime is stared working.

Now I need some help with gear selection in HUD - it still doesn't come up. I must be missing out some elementary things??

Gear selection in hud is only possible when you start the lap timer running. You can't have it with normal acc/traffic sign recognition /sat nav symbols.

If you have enabled lap timer it should just work.. But the lap timer needs to be running in the Vc

That's the only thing I was interested about the lap timer and now it makes me thinking probably it's not possible in car that was manufactured in 2017 or need some extra options that triggers the extra items in HUD, which I don't have. In fact, I don't see anything other than the normal speed display. Your's a 2017 model?

Isn't a bit weird that two completely unrelated things - 'lap timer' and 'gear selection' display - are being activated by a single coding?

Hello people, I was wondering if anyone could help me. I picked up my new Q7 yesterday (MY17). This morning I tried to make some changes via vcds 17.1.3.


In some cases, it would let me make the change, but would not save it.


In other cases, it gave an error about some file missing - NO ROD FILE FOUND - Unable to find a .ROD file for: EV_DashBoadrAU736 001022 (AU73).

I was using a winXP laptop, and I was trying to get the lock / unlock sound enabled when I got this error.

Does anyone have this file/files to share? Or do I have to go down the OBDEleven route?

Hi Harvi and welcome. Do you have a hex-net interface or the hex+can-usb interface. If the latter you may find you cant save stuff as the interface isn't fully compatible with the new MLBevo platform the new q7 is built on. You can upgrade / trade in your interface to a hex-net one or go down the odbeleven route

Good Morning People,

So I got my OBDeleven device on Friday, but due to being ill, I've only just managed to have a play this morning.

The changes made so far:

Needle Sweep
Enable Hidden MMI Menu
Lock/unlock beeps and flashes (2 for lock, 1 for unlock)

Adj Passenger Seat from Driver Seat controls (yet to test)
Seat Symmetry Movement (yet to test)
Lap Counter (yet to test)
VIM (yet to test) Note: This was already enabled so I'm not sure what's going on...

In addition to the above, I was really keen on getting the 2nd phone pairing option enabled but I cant find the right settings via the OBDeleven menu, Could any one help with this?

If It cant be done via the OBDeleven, then when is the next meeting? Perhaps One of you lovely members with VCDS could make the required changes in exchange for coin (I would never expect it to be for free)?

I'll update on the items not tested later in the day.

Auto stop start should work all the time except when the box is in sport as long as there is sufficient charge in the battery to deal with the current draw. Is this something you have only just noticed or was it like this a while?

well, I enabled VIM just a few days ago and noticed auto start/stop was not working at all during a short[-ish] trip when my daughter was watching something on the MMI. I'll test again tomorrow and re-confirm. It doesn't work in the manual mode at all, from the beginning (but I think that's by design??).

Well there are other times it won't work like when applying light pressure on the brake at a stop or when the car isn't warmed up yet. Have you tested it with vim enabled and running?

It won’t activate if in manual or Sport mode. Mine never comes during the week as I do short trips to the station and I’ve got a dashcam with parking mode that just drains the battery enough for stop/start to disable itself. Having the air con set quite aggressive will also do the trick!

Frank55, can you describe how you made the Traffic Sign Recognition on the cockpit. I recon the HUD option should be in the MMI (09 - Central Electrics modul). Search for user Mitchfin, he tried to do this, I thing he got the option in MMI coded, but the Traffic Sign recognition did not work at all.Thanks,

Does this work for you, do you see the road sign in the cockpit? I looked couple of post on other forum, and what you describe is same as the old MIB platform coding, which should not work for the 4M Q7 (MLB-evo platform).

If you have basic pre-sense, which you should, no new hardware is required. TSR uses the central camera under the rear view mirror. But according to what I read, the coding by Frank55 should have not worked, but looks like it worked for him. I have not tried it yet.

OK, it does not work for me. I did all the steps as @frank55 (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/member.php?u=208603), but no luck. I can see a new menu item in the cockpit for Traffic Sign, but it says "No traffic sign recognized". Interestingly when I coded the camera (A5 module), which showed the "VZE not coded". The software (ODIS) did not asked for access permission, but it coded it. I checked the module and after coding it showed "VZE is coded".

Sorry to bring this up again, but now the evenings are getting lighter I have finally found some time to play. My car has the basic pre-sense only. I have module A5 4M0907217D, but I keep reading about module 8E, I don't see this on my car. Is 8E needed for TSR? And should I have it with basic pre-sense? I get confused about what modules HEX-CAN interface can see these days, but don't want to upgrade if I still can't achieve what I'm looking for.

If I remember correctly the 8E module is the Head Up Display. You do not need it for the TSR, only need it to set when you want the TSR in the HUD.

I never made it to work, although I set everything up properly, but I read that one needs the database set up in the camera.

But your right. The issue is the dataset inside the camera which needs to support tsr. Without that your stuffed. So we all have the same camera in the windscreen but it's the dataset inside it that's wrong and then it's enabling it which we believe is just coding.

Problem is you can't extract the data set from a car with Tsr to put into one without it and we haven't yet got a copy of it that we could then import. (for example I have datasets for the bose amp for certain regions etc). It's the same principal.

If I can get them then we can try it but vcds doesn't support it but Vcp does do datasets.

Ok, so if it's just dataset/parameterization (plus the coding which we can obviously do) then I'd sooner spend money on VCP than the kufatec dongle.

I have a full VCP license and apparently they have a script/ZDC now for enabling TSR on countries that offer TSR from factory. I'll check the file later today to see what it refers too but it may be now just a matter of running this script via VCP to enable TSR (!)

I have finally got around to purchasing VCP and I can confirm that I have successfully been able to enable traffic sign recognition on my car.

However, the script @andyhud007 (http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/member.php?u=137388) mentions above is only the coding part of things (modules 17, A5 and 5F) that on it's own was not sufficient. As others have speculated, but I'd never actually seen any concrete evidence the camera module also needs the correct dataset loaded.

VCP have dataset's available that support the A5 module with index C and D for the Q7 4M (my car has a D). These are available in .flash files (not .zdc containers to be used with their one click guided functions) and have to be written using the VCP flashing option. It was a little bit of a step into the unknown, but in the end it all worked out.

Even if I never use VCP for anything else (I'm certain I will :D) the way I see it is this works out better value for money than the single use Kufatek dongle which appears to be the other method people have used for TSR/VZE.

I'm happy to help others (at their own risk!) but I'm even further down sawwwwwwwwwwwfffffffff than andy.

Least you have confirmed 100% that we were on the right track that a script (which changes coding) + the A5 Dataset is required to enable TSR. (A5 by the the way is the Module Code for the camera in the windscreen on the Q7 4M).

You'll defo use VCP for other stuff. I find I'm using it more and more.

Just seen on OBD apps there’s a lot of new ones, have to ad it it’s been a while since I’ve looked...new ones that stand out (for me)

- Second Phone Support
- Lane Departure in HUD (is this already in HUD - can’t remember)
- Copy Music from CD
- B&O Loudspeak trim illumination(if you fancy it you can turn it off)
- Highway Lights - automatically adjust lights at 68mph to give you extra 70meters visibility
- Brake Pad wear sensor (doesn’t this already exist?)
- Wash Water Sensor (again doesn’t this already exist?)
- Seat Heating Stages - increase the temp by +/- 5c at each stage
- Lock Unlocn acoustic confirmation (know the coding already is on thread but they’ve created the app)

I have no errors and all items are in the MMI etc but get the warning "Function is unavailable in your country" as the Australian cars are not the list of countries that have TSR.

Can you guide me how to install tthis dataset for the A5 Camera as it seems it is now the only thing missing? I think even if I gave Kufatec a VIN number of a working TSR Q7 from factory I am not sure it would load that dataset or do you think it would and be simple fix?

It will only work 50% of the time. A5 camera and TSR has nothing to do with VIN... The A5 camera gets route data from the MIB2 which has the location of the data in it (as the 100% working TSR compares map speed information with traffic signs viewed by the A5 camera). The issue is the camera has a list of supported countries which Australia isnt one. VCP allows you to update the dataset on the camera so that it can communicate the traffic sign information to the instrument cluster (this is what datasets do amongst other things - another way in the future for VAG to offer features as a paid service!).

Now, back to your question, if you are getting "Function is unavailable in your country", I think the dataset has been loaded/updated correctly. For this to function, you need to pick up a traffic sign within a few minutes of starting the car (before the A5 camera receives predictive route data (PSD) from the MIB2. Then you will get that single traffic sign in your cluster. What happens though is when you get the PSD, you get an error saying "Traffic Sign Recognition: currently restricted". The camera however will continue to operate. Trick is to:

a) stop PSD from reaching A5 camera.
b) hack firmware in A5 to allow Oz...

Some Russians claimed to get it working by blocking PSD from MIB2. There is a setting for it on the MIB2 but if you disable it, you lose all the other stuff this data is used for such as wide lighting at night when coming up to an intersection etc...

So park your car near a street with a visible traffic sign. Turn it off, then on again and drive by the sign to see whether you get the sign in your VC. If not, you may not have the dataset updated correctly (you need VCP). If you do get a traffic sign, that's the best you are going to get... till someone figure's this out. Hi, I think spyderboyant has replied with much more technical information which relates to your country than I would be able to offer. However, one point to note is that vcp datasets and encrypted to individual vcp license dongles, but it sounds like the kufatek dongle has done everything it can anyway!

You mean you didn't see any traffic signs in the VC? Keep the view in the VC on the traffic sign tab. It should start by saying "no traffic sign recognised". This then changes to (a) a traffic sign as it has seen one (b) "function unavailable in this country". If you do see a traffic sign prior to (b), you eventual get the error "Traffic sign recognition: function currently restricted"... The error stays but the camera still keeps reading traffic signs... Restricted means it is NOT comparing the values in the map data with the images of speed signs the camera has picked up. This is the big difference between the Audi TSR system and other cars as it is using map data to make comparisons. Other cars such as Volvo and mazda just show the traffic sign that their camera has seen.

Make sure you park the car turn it off and lock the doors. That seems to reset the camera TSR settings. Then start the car, wait 20-30 seconds then drive past a traffic sign and see if the camera picks up.

Without the correct dataset in the camera (ie just coding TSR) you always get "no traffic sign recognised"... and no errors. VCP is great for all the dataset stuff. I;ve had to use it for BOSE retroft and Ambient light retrofit as both MIB2 and J519 [BCM1] need dataset updates. Tehe guys at VCP are pretty good with requests as well. As Andy mentioned, all the flash files etc.. are tied to your dongle so you need to also purchase the software subscriptions. finally, they do VIM as well.

Trust me, I spent months figuring all this out! We need to find a way of stopping the predictive route data hitting the A5 camera but still available for J519 (controls the lights and all those functions). I thought I had it nailed with some PSD fields in the A5 but it didnt work :-(

Unfortunately its not that simple. If it was, VCP would offer it. What VCP do is change some information in the existing dataset (go to VCDS and look at AdvancedID before and then after running their script and the dataset version stays the same) to activate TSR as a feature. Also, if you think about it, we can get basic TSR working with errors by updating our Datasets (ie function unavailable in this country or restricted). Owners of Q7 4Ms in the UK without factory TSR use the dataset update from VCP and it works 100%. Hence, the region stuff is in the firmware and NOT the dataset.


If you look at that Russian post, they talk about "stopping PSD" from MIB2. I think they are changing Byte 24 bit 7 in MIB2 which stops PSD from going to ALL devices! Byte_24_psd (0=not activated / 1= activated). Things that rely on the PSD data will not work then. I have tried saying PSD and my MIB2 is not coded in A5 but that doesnt work. I eventually get the "function unavailable in this country" message meaning that these settings have no effect on A5 camera.


I am thinking that the root to getting this working is to look at getting our maps working while having our MIB2s coded as UK. We can test this by changing our map region to UK and seeing whether the maps stop working but TSR works. If this is the case then we know the region information that is used in PSD information is coded in MIB2. We then need to get Oz maps working when the MIB2 thinks its from the UK...




Below from my car. As you can see I have a traffic35047 sign (50Km) in the bottom right hand side of my VC here in Sydney. As I've mentioned before, you need to see a speed sign within a minute or a little longer or you immediately get "function unavailable in this country"

If you only get "no traffic sign recognised" - YES. Get VCP and apply dataset patch.... You will then have the same issue I have... either "traffic sign function currently restricted" or "function unavailable in this country"

My Q7 is March 2018 build so it will have the latest firmware revision, I have a OBDeleven coming on Monday, will check to see what the KUFATEC dongle actually changed although everything is in the MMI menu's showing TSR.


PS, what would be interesting if one downloaded the UK maps from MyAudi.com, as it states you can download different maps as you drive thru different countries? wonder if TSR would start to work, I mean if you were in Europe and drove into the next country that did not have TSR and you downloaded there maps what would be the error warning "Function unavailable in this country"

I agree its dissapointing. As I had mentioned earlier, with the predictive route data coming (including region by the looks of it) from the MIB2 to the A5 camera, the camera turns off TSR. Hence, we need a way to have Oz maps work while the MIB2 thinks its from say the UK. Issue is, with Audi's TSR, its not just showing the last traffic sign it has seen, its also using the map data speed information to compare what the map says and what the last speed sign says..

My other gripe is no artist and song name under the main radio button.... Bloody new Mazda's have this standard!

My module shows no Camera settings at all in A5, I have all the options in this Q7 e-tron including some special options put in on the assembly line as they were not an option on the build list, said unless I got them I did not want the car. Also have no errors at all. So where is the camera setting, have Pre-sense, stop & go cruise with radar, acc, PRD, etc but no Camera wording in A5 at all, all the other VZE and sign stuff is there and it says coded, and yes I can see the camera in the windscreen, so where is it hidden now in the latest firmware. My car was built in March 2018.

Ok, my module A5 Front Sensor Drive Assistance System, does not show a Camera, but I do have one, so I assume the settings in Byte 06 and Bit 0 thru to 7 which is Camera type must be ticked on to show. Spyderboyant can you tell what bits are ticket in your Byte 06 on your module?

I dit it. It's working! I didn't have to code 09 since I have electric steering column with memory and it was already factory coded. But after coding 36 (driver seat) the full Easy Entry started to work. Driver's seat also moves back.

I have tested it in my car. It also works for passenger seat. As you Andy suggested: module 06 the same bit. Please note that I have the passenger seat with the memory. No idea if it works also when you have the seat without memory.

Hi Andy,

I Enabled ability to lock car with Engine running and noticed that my Q7 can be locked via the lock button on the keyfob and the button on the door (I have convenience key), but can't be unlocked via sensor on door handle (convenience key). It can be unlocked only via unlock button on the keyfob.

Do you know is it normal behavior not to be able to unlock car via sensor on the door handle?

No, we can't activate/deactivate easy entry separately for passenger seat on MMI. On MMI you can only activate/deactivate the whole system: steering wheel, driver's seat and passenger seat - all together. I am curious how it is solved in new Q8 since as I have noticed this model has already factory set easy entry also on both seats, not only on steering wheel column as in our Q7s. I hadn't so far a chance to dig so deep in Q8 software. If it is possible in Q8 perhaps we will be able to activate it also in our cars as it is the same platform.

Sorry, I was mistaken. I have checked in my car, passenger seat easy entry I can disable only via coding as in your car. I believe that there is a possibility to do it also via MMI. When I will have more time I will do some experiments and I will let you know if I am successful. It could be a need to do some coding also in Module 09 Central Electrics to call the passenger easy entry screen on MMI.
Perhaps our guru Andy has an idea?

Using obd11 for the record - seems to be no descriptions on the long coding on module 03-Brakes.

Not yet, I'm sure its possible, we just need to find it. Module 03 (ABS) won't contain any long coding descriptions as a safety measure, even the dealer software doesnt show any descriptions next to the coding.

Its a matter of finding if a Q7 variant anywhere in the world does have this feature (assuming one does) from factory, and comparing coding across a number of modules.

Yep, the new 2018+ models the display doesnt retract by the button. It was some safety regulation that came into force apparently.. started in the US but I've seen it change on new Q7's here in the UK too.

I would like to think its coding but I honestly dont know as I've not had a new 2018 Q7 to look at and get the coding from to compare... its possible it might be in the firmware of the MMI unit/screen or even a dataset as apposed to just a bit 1/0 change..

I pulled coding from a 2017 Q7, and copied it to a 2018. Only 3 bytes were different. But it made no difference to the display closing. The wiring diagrams also appear the same from 2017 to 2018. I just dont understand how when I am connected with a scan tool, and reading the 5F module, the power button will open and close the screen as I would like it to. But as soon as I exit out, and disconnect. The button goes back to only powering the screen off. It seems like a firmware issue, instead of a coding issue. Does that mean I am completely out of luck, and stuck with the screen up all the time? I hope not

So the mmi units in 2018 are also a new chipset (qualcomm) as apposed to the older ones based on nvidia but I doubt that has much to do with the screen up / down issue.

My next path would be to activate GEM and see if there is anything in there. Let us know what you find.

We could compare against an older Q7 GEM.
