View Full Version : Folding mirrors

Hi,

I have installed power fold mirrors after swapping over mirror caps and glass onto new bases, installed new switch and coded driver, passenger and module 46 to enable power fold. however nothing happens. Something I'm missing? Door controllers perhaps, do some support power fold and others not? Its a 2014 model mid spec Sline.

Option appears in MMI but mirrors don't fold when running output test in VCDS.

Drivers door Part No SW: 8T0 959 793 Q HW: 8T0 959 793 F
Passenger door Part No SW: 8T0 959 792 Q HW: 8T0 959 792 H

Same version of controller as me, they're only midline controllers and don't support folding.

If you look at the plug for the mirror you'll find that pin 9 + 10 are the two wires for folding, if you then look at the same position on your controller you'll see its not pinned. This is why you're not getting anything when running an output test.

From reading online apparently the controllers with filled boxes (see pic below) on the top right are highline and support folding/dimming.

Wondering whether to do this retrofit or not as I didn't expect to be changing controllers on a 65 plate car!

Ok thanks, I didn't expect to have to change controllers either, couldn't understand the logic of Audi making a controller that didn't support folding if the coding could control the functionality internally. The retrofit guides didn't mention an issue with controllers so I blindly hoped they could support folding. The issue now is working out which controllers I need as it appears to be many versions available. Do you know what the six boxes mean top right? Also odd that's its an 8T and not an 8K part number which doubles the listed parts available.

Looks like I need the 'M' version

I know what you mean about different variations, from what I gathered from doing a bit brief research is that the 8K0 are for pre-facelift + 8T0 are for facelift.

Top right boxes mean left side and right side and that the module can be used on either side.

The 2 bottom ones are for the rear doors, again these come half filled and filled.

Ordered a couple of door controllers, I think I've picked the right ones, same manufacturer and date with correct pinouts, I'll report back when I get them fitted.

Code J

I connected up new controller and coded to previous but I get some errors...

I think I understand the Invalid Data set error as its the car component protection not liking a new module but I don't understand the others.

Also mirrors don't work with new module but it connected and accepted coding. It also complained about one of my back doors but I've not touched them.

Wishing I hadn't started this now, it was easy upgrading mirrors and controllers on the B7

Invalid data set means the controller has the wrong software and can't talk properly to your car.

Just logged onto etka and looks like I might need P instead of J but it's not conclusive.

Tried a different module and no errors raised this time. All door functions work and mirrors fold with switch and when locking car. Only issue is that mirrors auto fold out approx 15 seconds after engine start.

Which ones are you using now?

Thats not an issue, thats how they're supposed to work.

Code P post 2012 module. Pretty sure it shouldn't be delayed,

Hi, I'm thinking of doing this mod. Could you give me the list of part numbers used and also the approximate cost of the complete mod? Thanks, Chris

Hi, parts listed are for facelift 2012> A4.
You obviously need new mirror bases (8K2 857 409 AJ and 8K2 857 410 AH - RHD only)
New mirror switch, didn’t note the part number.
New switch surround 8K2 867 172 E (black) and New optic 8T0 919 173 A
I reused my original glass but factory fit would use dimming glass. (Mirror bases have plug for dimming)
In all approx. £470 with switch and controllers from ebay.

Rebuilding the mirrors was fiddly as it takes a while to release all the clips without breaking them.
The only problem was the door controllers; I had to change mine as they weren’t highline. Highline support mirror fold but normal ones don’t. After some research I discovered there are many versions and many manufacturers of these controllers for an A4/A5. Pre 2012 controllers don’t work with Post 2012 cars it seems.
In my case I had Q controllers and I replaced them with P.
Coding was straight forward, initially they didn’t fold out straight away but after playing with the coding they now fold out as soon as ignition is started. Also passenger mirror dip now works properly as before it always raised back slightly too high.

Hi - I am a newbe nd hope I am in the correct forum area! Also I am not very technical .

I had an auto electrician specialising in Audi vehicles retro fit electric folding mirrors on my 2013 petrol Audi A4 allroad Quattro to replace existing electrically heated factory fitted mirrors so I could get the car in the garage without fouling the mirrors . Also I often have to use narrow country roads where the folding facility is very useful to me to give me more clearance from passing vehicles. My auto electrician was able to fit the mirrors and activate the folding feature with the fob when the vehicle is locked and open when the car is started. However he cannot activate either the manual override or the reverse tilt feature( I understand this is only available on some models). Do I have to replace the existing driver door control switch as well . The auto electrician does not think so or does not know. I saw a You Tube video when researching the topic and it shows the switch going from the 12 O clock position to the S6 O clock position Edith a light coming on just below the switch. My switch will not go beyond 1 O clock. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated to solve my problem .

You need the new switch, trim surround and fibre optic lighting ring for the switch to enable the folding-on-demand option.

Yes, new switch and surround. To enable mirror dip I setup the passenger door controller like so.

Hi Thanks for the information.

My local Audi are unable to find the part number for this driver door switch but are able to get the surround with the manual on demand symbol at the six o' clock position.

They had no new ideas other than agreeing that I needed a new switch which would turn to six 0' clock.

Does any one know the part number or where I might be able to source this switch. The Vehicle is an AUDI A$ all road quattro 2013 model

Removing fault VCDS 03175 "Invalid Data Set"

In the carmenuoperation menu i added 1 to every option then rebooted

go into the hidden menu
- go to car -- carmenuoperation
- change every value by adding "1"
- restart the MMI
- go into the hidden menu again
- go to car -- carmenuoperation
- change the values back to their original value, i.e. substract "1"
- restart the MMI
