Warm the car up on a drive, remove the plastic undertray. You don't have to remove the roadwheel despite the Audi pictures
2890928910I used around 2.8 litres of this oil at £17 from Audi or TPS 28911
I then used a size 10 sump plug to unscrew the filler hole first, just in case I drained oil and couldn't get the filler open to refill gearbox up.
28912When you try and put the sump plug into the filler hole, you may find it hard to get a socket over the sump plug remover, simply twist the driveshaft round slightly and the cut of the driveshaft will allow easier access. Its easier doing this than explaining.
28913 Simply then open drain hole, and drain the oil. Tighten up the drain plug , and put your finger in the filler hole. You will feel a half hole and horizontal level. You will need to put a small pipe over this level to fill up. I then put the hose above the engine by and filled up the gearbox.
I couldn't find any manual gearbox draining and refilling for the manual gearbox anywhere, so hope this helps somebody. For reference my car is 9 year old and has 63,000 miles on her

£17 per litre so 3 bottles at £51 or £17 total ?
What's the oil spec part number ?

£17 per bottle from Audi and TPS as Glasgow Audi said I only needed one bottle ...................... and I knew they only had one left in stock. So I phoned Skoda as they were closer and they didn't have any. So went to TPS and got two bottles.
Bit of a shock when 3 litres came out !
Its G 052 532 A2 or 01E04

Many have found the original fill of 75W90 G 052 532 A2 to have stiff gear changes from cold , to sort this VW produced a lighter weight G 052 171 A2 .
A non VAG oil G 052 171 A2 equivalent would be Fuchs TITAN SINTOFLUID FE SAE 75W around £12 1L .
It is highly likely that Fuchs makes the VAG gearbox oil .

Here's the bang for buck G 052 171 A2 .
Febi 21829 Gearbox Oil: Amazon.co.uk: Car & Motorbike (http://www.amazon.co.uk/febi-bilstein-21829-Febi-Gearbox/dp/B006DHQQIE)
Save nearly £10 a litre over oem , £51 for gearbox oil has just become £21.60;)

That Oil has the G 060 726 A2 spec, which was £7 per litre from Skoda. I put this in my wifes Skoda Fabia 1.4 tdi and it helped with the slight crunching in the odd 2nd gear change we were experiencing.
Skoda upgraded the spec and it used to be G 050 spec, that's why I went to Glasgow Audi as I wanted to find out if there was an upgraded spec from original spec when the car was first built. The car parts dept couldn't tell myself if there has been an upgrade or not.
Is there comprehensive list of what the 6 speed manual gearbox can take ? I put a post in the A6 section and no one could tell me the specs, hence trip to Glasgow Audi, and a google trawl showed countless How To guides on the automatic or triptronic gearboxes, nothing on the manual ............................. hence this post

You mean G 055 726 A2 , see that is what's wrong with this stupid number system , too easy to get wrong , 1 digit wrong sees a non PD engine oil going into a PD .
Some dealers are in the know , most just go off what the computer suggests .
Always best to use a lesser viscosity oil to help when it ages and thickens up preventing stiff changes , small efficiency gains too , power , torque and mpg .

So that's either G 052 532 A2 or G 052 911 A1 for GVC or GYF or GYX gearboxes and 3.2 litres when new, which I got around 2.9 litres out of my gearbox ............. and around 2.9 litres when putting in.
Its G 052 911 A1 for FZJ or HVD or JMC gearboxes and 3 litres.

As far as I know the Manual Transmission Spec at new was VW G50 synthetic gear oil, viscosity SAE 75W/90 for the skoda fabia/ vw Polo . The G 060 726 A2 was the Spec just last month at Glasgow Skoda.
I agree the number system is a bit wacky though.
If I had known the G 052 171 A2 had been better , I would have got that for my A6.

That's the confusion. That's the same part number for three other gearboxes as per your post. I was lead to believe G ****** A1= 1/2 litre bottle and G ****** A2= 1 litre. So that's why I am confused. I'll just give audi a bell. But thanks for your reply

I’ve got an Audi A4 b8 2011 2.0 litre tdi , the gears are quite stiff in the winter when putting 1 and 2 in , ive ordered the G 052 171 A2 gear oil now, the original vw oem, I’ve only got 2 bottles so 2 litres of it , now the seller has no more , how many litres do I need if you know and can I just order the febi bilstein one in the link and mix them in ?
Thank you I would appreciate your feedback.
