Hi, I am looking to replace the rear shocks on a 2010 CC for a friend. I am pretty handy with the tools but need to know if they need to be setup once installed using vagcom due to the electronic ride adjustment on the vehicle. Also if anyone has any tips or trade secrets on the job I would appreciate it:biglaugh:

It is a pain Monroe stopped offering these as they are only available genuine now. Anyway, fit and forget, just check for system fault codes.

I've just bought a 2011 Passat CC and I may have rear shocks to replace before MOT as the last one flagged an advisory on a rear shock.

Are these only available from VW now?

It depends on which dampers it has. Base model non electronic then Sachs, Boge, Bilstein, TRW, Monroe etc and VW even do their own "ECO" versions for about £67 a side. If they are the electronic type, only Monroe have ever listed them and they are flagged as no longer available so prepare to bend over and chomp down on that pillow, 213 times, each side....

They are suitable for cars with the PR-1JP suspension as shown on the cars data sticker. I looked on my system and the part number has changed slightly which threw me and they cross reference over to the correct VW number. A much better price.

I did a set of those on a Scirocco (much the same setup) and it absolutely buggered the ride quality. Fine in Der Fatherland with their nice roads but awful here.

ETKA makes no stipulation about 17, 18 or 19 inch wheels so as long the the Monroe dampers corresponds to VW part numbers 3C0 513 045 D and 3C0 513 046 D then there should be no problem. It is interesting that that link they list is C1517 (and possibly the corresponding C1517R) but I get the current Monroe numbers as being C1514. What confuses me is C1514R, C1517, C1517L all go to C1514 and my system reiterates the nicht fur 18's unt R36. Doesn't add up. Then after all that, they are handed so what about the other side?

most confusing.... surely the rolling radius is the same regardless of wheel size assuming you size your tyres correctly ( well at least within a few perecent)

It could be a weight rating issue but why if they are a VW equivalent are they stipulating this? There are too many if buts and maybes, I don't trust ANYONES application list, I depend on the part number cross reference (and even then I am wary) but they provide no VAG number cross reference. Go genuine.
