My wife noticed that the tailgate was noisy on opening like a quick succession of ticks noise cleared when open, so I decided to have a look the noise was coming from the motor in the boot floor area, I removed the trims to find a broken spring on the mechanism, so I bent back the next ring on the spring and reattached it, it was obvious where it had come from, greased up mechanism refitted and fault has gone, wondered if anyone has had a similar problem and hope it helps someone else in the future, hate to think what Audi would have charged. Trying to do a lot of work on car myself.

Shame that nobody is able to help you out. I think Q7s are quite rare sadly for you. Congrats on sorting things yourself though and hope you continue to be able to fix any future faults yourself.

Thanks for that, maybe someone in the future may have this problem and they can use my posts, you maybe right but the parts girl at hitchin audi said they don't sell many parts for q7's only tyres and inlet manifolds, I fixed the manifolds myself with the audi repair kit so fingers crossed it should only be wear and tear parts to replace now. Going to do brakes and tyres soon.

Hello the part number is 8P4 827 505C, there was one being sold on ebay by a dealer in Scotland but after postage it was cheaper to go to local dealer. Easy to fit

Hello, wife's out in the car at moment or would go out to have a look, I will try to give steps by memory.
remove warning triangle and two square panels on panel, this exposes I think 6 torx screws maybe more (size t20 I think) also remove the trim up around the window starting with the one in top middle position, the side ones also have torx screws in. Once they are removed tug down on panel but not too hard as wires for light and tailgate close button will still be connected, disconnect plugs and lay panel aside. You will now see the latch, remove a small plastic trim that exposes the third 13mm nut, remove latch and plug, you will have to transfer a piece of white plastic over on the lever and the bit I found most difficult was removing the plastic latch surround but shove a screwdriver down either the front or the back and that releases the cover that just slides onto the new one. Refitting is obviously reverse and no programming or computers are needed, I did buy an autel vag 505 and that removed the fault code. If you get stuck message me and I will try to help,

I just thought I'd share that I had this problem with my boot. Changed the latch and now it is working perfectly. Thank you for this info.
