Hi,
Is their any way to connect iPhone with MDI in glove-box (shown in picture below) to play music. I also bought an extension cable (Shown in attached Picture) from eBay which is with side-on connector which does not fit into the small place around the iPod adapter in glove-box.
I have MFD2 fitted in my car. Details are below:
SYSTEM: VW Radio Navigation MFD2 DVD
NAVI / RADIO: 1K0919887F / 1K0035095G
HW - HU: D1 / 0828

Thats not MDI, thats the iPod prep which fools the headunit into thinking a cd multichanger is fitted.
The cable you bought won't work but what you do need however is 30 Pin Dock Extender Extension Data Cable Sync Lead for Apple iPod iPhone iPad | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/30-Pin-Dock-Extender-Extension-Data-Cable-Sync-Lead-for-Apple-iPod-iPhone-iPad-/300722424164?pt=UK_MobilePhones_MobilePhoneAccesor ies_MobilePhoneDataCables_JN&hash=item4604740964) if the iPhone won't fit into the gap.

Thanks for your reply. iPhone does fit into the box but it don't let me close the glove-box. I tried to test it but with no luck. I assume that when you connect the iPhone ignition should be off. After connection the iPhone, turn the ignition on. But it does not show anything new on display.
am I missing anything here?

if the glovebox doesn't close then it don't fit ;) So the extension cable will solve that.
Ignition doesn't have to be on or off, just plug it in and select CD or similar on the headunit, maybe look for CD 1-6 or 6-12 etc.

Thanks,
I will buy the cable from Tesco or Asda today and will let you know the outcome
Are their any different type of cables? for example 30 Pin.

30 pin is for the non-lightening devices. I don't think Asda or Tesco sell the extension leads (well any local to me don't).

I have another point in Arm rest which is also mystery to me. Manual says that its a place to connect phone. But even that place is not big enough to fit most of the phone.

What is it? An AUX?

Its not 3.5 Jack. But I will upload the photo shortly. Its like a little cradle for phone.

A good thread on how to convert a coin drawer into an iPod dock is at:

Other kits available are: Parrot MKI9000 for iPhone connectivity, and Xcarlink with Bluetooth.

Looks Nokia-ish to me, you see the tab on the first picture, on the left? What happens if you slid that across? Does that whole thing come out?

I have not tried too hard but looks like its not doing anything. I did pressed the tab firmly but can't see anything happening.

Looks like its made for nokia 6800. Can't understand why VW used a dying technology in 2007!
Even not all old Nokia phones fit into the cradle

Received the cable today. Still can't see anything on screen. No change at all. I think I need 12v to 5v adapter as well. :zx11:

Did you go into the CD changer function on the headunit?

I don't have CD changer installed, even I can't see the option to switch to CD changer. Only AUX option is visible.

I know you don't have a changer installed but the iPod dock replicates a CD changer.
If you press the CD button what happens with a device connected?

Nothing happens. If I press the CD button. It just play the CD. Not making the CD changer options visible.
I tried be pressing the CD button twice, but no luck.
Removed the CD from player and then pressed the CD button. Nothing happens.

try a different idevice if possible. as richard said earlier in the thread, you'd be better off with a xcarlink or similar.

They claims that it works: "Set up folders as playlists or albums and select them through your car stereo and steering wheel controls"
Ref: Untitled Document (http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/product.php?productid=9&cat=2&page=1)
Car is just great but Car entertain system is not very poor. Bluetooth kit is not pairing with most of the phones, iPod dock is not working properly. Use same Disc reader for maps and music, means can play music and use nav at the same time. Hope xCarLink will make it little better ... Fingers crossed

I only drive one hour in a day. I think I can live with it :)
Once I get this iPhone Dock working, I will be more than happy :beerchug:

Have a look at this fitting
Genuine VW Bluetooth Touch Adapter Handsfree Car Kit ( THB Bury AD9060 ) | eBay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-VW-Bluetooth-Touch-Adapter-Handsfree-Car-Kit-THB-Bury-AD9060-/301026140512?pt=UK_Car_Speakerphones&hash=item46168e6160)

Thanks
How this touch screen Adapter works?
No details provided by seller, if its just used to attach phone using bluetooth then its not very usefull for me because I also have Premium bluetooth kit installed in my car. Unless it helps to connect to iPhones.

(http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Original-VW-Adapter-Apple-Iphone-3G-3CO-051-435-BA-/350718325061)You need to get an iphone cradle to put your phone into and then the cradle mounts into the cradle fitting in your armrest, but double check first as it only looks like the same fitting at the moment.
Look at the above old german Ebay page for the cradle you may need.....
