Hi All,
I didn't want to start another thread about this topic but after endless searches in the net I couldn't find anything regarding my type of retrofit.
I recently bought a set of genuine LED taillights for my 2009 A4 B8 UK version (Xenon Headlights). I didn't buy the adapters from Kufatec as I would do the "pin/connector" conversion myself. The BCM2 convenience control unit in my car is 8K0 907 064 C
The outer Lights were basically plug and play with no connectors/pins need changing. I double checked the track layout inside and noticed the Pin 1,2 and 3 on the old is the same on the new LED lamps.
For the inner lights I removed the current connectors(square 4 pins) and replaced with 3B0972705 connectors (in-line rectangular 4 pins). I double checked the pins and wires on the old and transferred them to the new connector. But now the inner rings do not light up when I apply the brake. Is this because the system still needs coding or do I need to add another wire?
Once i can get this done hopefully we will have a good guide for this retrofit, without the need for adapter harnesses.
Thanks

Thanks for taking the time! :D

Is this applicable for the 2011 B8 too? I did notice that despite having LEDs at the back, the brake bulbs still seem to be normal bulbs. Would be nice to get these changed to LEDs...

All S-Lines will have full LED clusters at the rear from 09/10-ish

Att: Theskyfox
Correct me if I am wrong, but the Light clusters should work as follows:
Brake : Bright LED Ring (Inners and outers lights combined)
Tail/Driving: Dim LED Ring (Inners and outes combined)
Fog: Bulb (Inners only)
Rev: Bulb (Inners only)

Update:
Just back from Audi Huntingdon to have my car coded. All good and lights function as if factory fitted. Coding cost me £50 (Audi Milton Keynes quoted £147 ???) , but now my car is set up permanently. I have been assured by them that the settings/coding will not be deleted or reverted back to factory settings when I take my car in for a service/repairs etc.
Function:
Brake : Bright LED Ring (Inners and outers lights combined)
Tail/Driving: Dim LED Ring (Inners and outes combined)
Fog: Bulb (Inners only)
Rev: Bulb (Inners only)
Indicator: Bulb (Outers only)
So in short it cost me 2x3B0972705 connectors (£1.75 each) and £50 for coding. But please check with Audi if your BCM2 convenience unit is compatible for LED lights before you do this mod. Luckily mine was correct as per the Audi Technician.
And yes the lights look awesome! :biglaugh:

Nice work, did you get lights from Audi? Regarding convenience unit, all can be coded- otherwise kufatec should have note there, like it is with xenon headlight.

I finally got time to wash the car and take some pictures. Below is a guide on what I did to retrofit LED lights without any Kufatech adapters. Please note that this is only a guide and that I take no responsibility for any damage/problems.

Got some genuine rear led lights today(thankyou e-bay) they the genuine ones, the plugs are different compared to my cars as its currently the boring bulb ones.
the plug-connecter that fits on the outer light is the same except the led one has a bit of plastic sticking out allowing the plug not to fit,if i file it down i know it will fit,but is the wiring in the right order? heres a pic of the led one,the outer one:

Now i also need the plug for the one that fits the boot lid (saloon) heres the image for that.

Has anyone else done the retrofit using this guide? I am going to attempt the conversion on my late 2008 A4 S Line this weekend with some used lights I bought off ebay. I just wanted to get a bit of assurance before I started changing the existing wiring configuration & connectors

Finally done the retrofit using this guide (which is pretty good to be fair) and apart from being ripped off by a breaker for the lights, then having to buy some new inner boot lid lamps from Audi (ouch!!!!) and struggling to remove the pins from the old connectors, all went well lol. If anyone is thinking of doing this mod, I would suggest buying the kit from Audi. It is expensive but I ended up paying more in the end by doing it this way. Thanks to the OP for the guide though, it helped my out a lot!

Great thread! I'm also looking to change Pre-FL halogen rear lights to Pre-FL LEDs
Does anyone know the coding required for this upgrade? I have found the following but the thread was a little fragmented:
46-Central Conv > Security Access (16017) > Adaptation-10
Channels
181 > 64608
187 > 16368
188 > 16368
195 > 5123 inner brake light with fog
196 > 5155 inner brake light with fog
197 > 5124
198 > 5156
203 > 73
204 > 105
Someone also mentioned changing CH 183 to 0 if 'buld out' errors occur
