Hello all,

I know you probably wont be able to tell me exactly what the problem is, but am hoping just for an idea of what my issue may be...

My 07 vRS TFSI had its cambelt, water pump and rear brake pads replaced on Saturday. I drove it home, all was well, albeit £400 lighter. I take it to work this morning and 15mins into my journey the emissions workshop light comes on (Exhaust Control System warning light). The light is on solidly, but the car is driving fine. No limp mode, no stuttering or anything.

It's back at home now and I'm borrowing my Dad's Megane until I can get it looked at on Wednesday. I know this is many people's pet hate asking for what a fault is without having a code read, but it seems odd that it happened just after my cambelt was done. Could something have been knocked or damaged? Is this lambda sensor disconnected during the job?

If anyone could just give me a heads up as to what it could be so I can brace myself, that would be great!

borrowing a megane ???? :aargh4:
whats wrong with your golf ?
i don't think anything needs to be disconnected to do the belt and normally if something is left off the light will come straight on rather than a while down the road so its probably just coincidental. hopefully the diagnostic check will end up with a nice cheap fix for you.

Ha, I know! The shame of driving the Renault! It's a 1.5 dci 80 too! lol.
Miss Mac has the Golf for work most days and the 16v isnt quite roadworthy yet.
Ok, well hopefully it is just a coincidence and wont be too much of a problem.

Ok, so I had a fault code read today:

01089 EVAP emission control system incorrect flow.
P0441 Lower limit reached.

The only other faults flagged were a horn fault (never noticed) and wiper singal fault (again, never noticed.)

Car runs fine, so the mechanic has cleared the fault and said to run it and see if it comes on again.

What could those fault codes mean?

Could be a rouge fault - just wait and see if the engine light comes back on.

left the evap pipe off or damaged it changing the belt

Thanks for the quick responses guys! I will see if it comes on again and if it does, I will point him in that direction.

I was stood with him and he just seemed to push the camshaft sensor, to ensure it was connected and a few other things. It was pitch black outside, so couldnt see much and he just plugged in the diagnostic machine to see what codes came up, cleared them and said to see what happens. He may well have reconnected it, but I wouldn't know, as that engine scares me, as I can't see anything other than a cover!

I will let you know.

Right then, so last week my emissions workshop light returned, again with no symptoms. No loss of power, nada.

So my mate took it in and the same fault code showed up. I mentioned to him this evap pipe so he was aware.
But after contacting VW, they informed him a likely culprit may be the carbon canister (whatever that is), so he has removed that, cleaned it as best as he can with an air line and cleaned associated sensors too. He also cleared the fault. He was reluctant to just replace it with a new carbon canister as a new one is £90 + VAT.

I have the car back and been told to run it to see if it does it again, but it was 5 weeks before the light came back on...
