Please can one of you kind people who managed to get their Samsung Galaxy S3 paired to their Audi A6 (MMI advanced) please walk me through how you did it.

Tied to connect my new phone, managed to get the Bluetooth connection established without any problems, and it even transfered the contacts information - which sort of told me that there was something wrong (since I dont have contact information on my SIM card), and as it turns out there is no data connection.

I watched the 'education video' from Audi on the connecting a rSAP phone to the MMI - but the two options of connections mentioned didnt appear when I ran the setup - it seems to have gone straight into 'hands free' mode.

So I am assuming that I am missing something that actually enables the rSAP connection between the phone and the car.

BTW - the Samsung Galaxy S3 is running 4.0.4 Andorid - which is supposed to support rSAP

Hi I have the S3 and the MMI advanced tech pack and works fine, try deleting the pairing on both the MMI and phone.
Make sure you have set the bluetooth discoverable on the phone then search for the phone using the MMI, once found connect using carphone profile, this should then give you the full rSAP connection, the phone will ask if you want to accept contacts access by the MMI and accept.
The only problems I have experienced is that I had to manually input the APN details to work with Vodafone. My friend also has the S3 and an A7 with MMI advanced, he had to get a new microsim as the one from his iPhone would not allow rSAP connection.
Hopefully this is of some help?
If not just ask and I'll see if I can be of any assistance.
Greg.

About to get my A7 delivered with MMI Advanced. I also have vodaphone so it looks like I am in the same boat as you gregpawley , what is APN?

When the car phone option appears in the list you also have to highlight it and push the big button to select it and go to the next stage before the data connection will establish, it's not obvious. If I remember you also have to find the data connection bit and do that too. Trouble is I've done it once, a month ago, and already forgotten!

Also, once the car has taken over the phone, you loose the ability of the phone to see the internet, so you then have to enable the Wireless LAN hotspot in the car and connect to that as WiFi from the phone - it's kind of crazy, but it gets there!

If you don't have a car phone option in the list on the MMI, then something is wrong, what is the build on your android?, mine is IMM76D.I9300XXBLFB, I'm aware of a later one than mine, but I believe anything earlier hasn't got rSAP, and you would need to update with KIES.

Go in to the telephone settings look for APN and enter manually for Vodafone as follows : -
APN. wap.vodafone.co.UK
Username wap
Password wap

This works fine for me

My Vodafone sim (from an iPhone) worked without entering APN details when I installed it in a Nokia and connected via rSAP, and also when it's installed in the dashboard sim slot. I get full online data and services. It might just be some Vodafone sim cards which are provisioned differently?

I deleted the pairing on both the MMI and phone and tried to connect the two again - once the MMI did the search foe the phone and found it, there was no option for Carphone profile - only Bluetooth.

Did you have to the APN part after the phone is linked to the car?

The SIM profile was on a 'standard' size SIM, and this worked when inserted into the MMI SIM socket - but when I got the Galaxy S3, I had to transfer the to a micro SIM so I cant try it in the MMI SMI socket so done know if something in the profile has changed....

Sounds like you have not got rsap on the phone. If your S3 is new and not updated rsap won't be on it. Check the build in settings.

OK -I have got my Samsung Galaxy S3 to connect and work correctly...

These are the items I went through to get it all to function:

1) Make sure that you are on the latest level of firmware - unless you have messed about with the phone firmware (i.e. rooting etc.) you should be able to connect it to the Samsung Kies software and it will sort this out for you

2) Make sure that you enable the WAP and MMS profiles - again the utility on the Samsung website will do this for you.

http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/usefulsoftware/CFPH/JSP

3) Link the phone to the car as per the instructions and it should work

If you have messed around with the firmware, make sure that the CSU code for your phone matches the firmware - but this should not be a problem unless you start to tinker with the phones firmware. Otherwise not only will Kies not be able to upgrade your firmware (it will tell you this when you connect your phone to the computer running Kies) but the bluetooth connection will fail

Hope this helps anyone still trying to connect their S3 to your Audi

Had my S3 for a week or so now. Generally good experience but have occassionally noticed an issue with rSAP not disconnecting properly. The circle with the line through it remains in the status bar at the top of the screen. I have to put the phone into and out of Flight Mode to clear it. Has anyone else experienced issues of this nature?

Hi Ski,

I get the same, not very often though!

I have the same problem every now and again - I fix the problem by switching off bluetooth, wait a few seconds and the switch on bluetooth - seems to fix the problem for me when the link 'breaks'

Has anybody upgraded their S3 to JellyBean and does rSAP still work?

I was waiting for you to try it - wait a couple of days then surf around on the VW forums as well, someone will give it a go!

Well, I've had a surf around and can't find anyone saying it does or does not work.

I found one guy who said it worked with his Passat audio high or something, but his phone was rooted etc.

I'm reluctant to try it until someone gives it the big green light, I like my google maps too much to loose them now!

Update is definitely available though as I just tried it and the download started which I quickly cancelled, I read it's 248mb!

On another note - anyone trying Windows 8 in the morning, I am, on my boys Vista machine! Seems a bargain for £25

Well I'd be happy to update to the latest o/s & let somebody with a C7 try it with their car, but not sure if anybody who's in your situation is anywhere near me.

I have just borrowed a colleagues S3 that was upgraded to 4.1.1 this morning. When scanned for new Blue Tooth device it was picked up and offered but Car Phone and Handset connectivity. I didn't go as far as connecting in Car Phone mode for a number of reasons. The fact that Car Phone was offered must mean support for rSAP is still present. On this evidence I am going to take the plunge and upgrade.

Upgrade to JellyBean 4.1.1 was seemless enough. Happy to report that the S3 still connects in rSAP Car Phone mode following the upgrade. Validated my contact list transfers okay, able to make calls, Google Maps display fine and Online Traffic comes up. No worries...... yet!

Can I ask how you upgraded to 4.1.1 Skibuddy? I've gone into settings, About Device, Software Updates & it basically tells me to wait in line. Something about "Access to software updates are available o users in the order they requested it, try again later." or something like that.

I had that response yesterday but to day just logged straight on. Just patience and the same process and you will be sorted!

After upgrading to JellyBean 4.1.1 I have experienced problems with BlueTooth not connecting automatically. I have to turn BlueTooth off and then back on again on the S3 and then it is picked up and connects just fine. Once connected, no problems from that point onwards.

Agreed with regards to Jelly Bean.

Brycie

Dgarside, just wondering whether when you said "agreed with regards to jellybean" you meant that jellybean was working in rsap mode as it was under ics platform, or that you were also now having trouble connecting via bluetooth since downloading jellybean.

I'm sure that this problem (the bluetooth connection issue) is exclusive to the C7 model & my C6 wouldn't suffer the same problem, but surely bluetooth is bluetooth & works on the same principle, therefore I may suffer the same issues with connecting phone to bluetooth module.
P.S. I've still not been given access to download Jellybean. When I try to download it I'm still receiving the same message as in my previous post. Are your sure you don't need to call yor network provider to officially request the update? I think I already know the answer to my question and I just need to check for updates as per Steuart's advice, but I am very impatient lol

Sorry for the confusing reply. Yes it works fine under JB same as under lCS. Not noticed any difference as yet under JB from when I was using ICS. I'll keep an eye on it and let you know if anything changes.

Brycie, if you've still not got the upgrade 'over the air', the can you not get it via Kies on your PC?

jbanfie

Also, my Jellybean upgrade works fine with the car, and I've not noticed any issues or the disconnection 'feature' of not releasing the phone as yet

Wayhey!! I'm now on jelly bean. Oh my word it was painful though, installing Kies, checking all the settings in Cntrol Panel, connecting etc etc. Must have been a 4 hour prcess in the end for a non techie like me. I am determined to think the update is brilliant in order to think it was all worthwhile :D

Thanks for the gooid pointer though jbanfie.

Not 100% convinced yet but after turning Power Saving off it has connect each time I have got into the car. Perhaps power saving turns Blue Tooth off if nothing has connected in a while.

I have power saving enabled and have not had any trouble as yet, still early days, but I think it's more stable than before, but I could be proved wrong!

I am running 4.1.2 with an S3 4g bought in March. The phone calls/ data/ on line etc is perfect if a little slow to sort it self out at times - 2 mins from switch on to google maps appearing sometimes.

The contacts / phone will not import despite everything i've tried. Nothing is on the sim itself, could that be why?

Any suggestions? A setting i have missed?

Thanks

Hi

I have an S3 running 4.1.2 as well and my contacts import OK, even though they are not on the sim. However, I remember when I first got the car and paired my phone that when I accessed the phone book in the car, I had to scroll down quite a way before my contacts displayed (and still have to btw). It's to do with the way the contacts are arranged in the S3 (so the dealer said) which gives you a lot of blank entries on the car at the top first but scrolling down a few pages eventually brings up all your contacts.

This may or may not be relevant to you, depending on the amount of info you have in your contacts, but I have quite a lot.

I forgot to chime in on this, I'm sure you've paired and re-paired a lot of times? But when you do pair the phone asks if you want to allow the car access to the contacts and call history to which you have to reply yes (and check don't ask again). Like I say I'm sure you've done this and there must be a different problem, but I thought I'd mention it.
