Hi all - I've had the climate control stuck on ECON for a few weeks - Went to KwikFit for a re-gas and they said no leaks and system was full (they didn't even charge me even though car hooked up for an hour).

I bought one of the hand held scanners, this picked up 3 codes - One of which relates to AUTO HVAC which seems to be linked to air conditioning. The fault was High Pressure Sensor (G65) static open/short circuit to positive.

reading on the net this seems a common fault and may be a faulty sensor or poor connection. But can I find where it is.... No, some people suggest drivers side near the headlight.

Can anyone say for sure where it is and what it looks like - Also, it seems as though you can remove this sensor without the refrigerant escaping due to non-return valve, is this true.

Thanks to all who read this and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction cos it's so bloody hot :zx11:

Cheers
Paul

What exactly were the 3 codes? Do you have a Regulating Control Valve Air compressor or a Magnetic Clutch Air Compressor? To check the wiring, if you trace the single red (I think) wire back from the Air Compressor to near the PAS Reservoir on the PASSENGER side, there is a bank of 3 connectors. The smallest is the air Compressor. Note, this is just a connector not a sensor. If wiring looks ok, suggest running a single wire from the +ve battery to the terminal on the air compressor (remove the current one first). If you have a mag clutch compressor, you will hear the clutch click on-off as it makes contact with the pulley - as you make/break contact with the terminal. If you get no clicking contact, suspect a problem with the compressor. The ECON light on the dash comes on when the clutch is away from the pulley (ie. you have pressed it and selected air-con off). The ECON light goes off when the clutch engages (ie. you have pressed it to select air-con).
Hope this is of use.

If G65 fails it shuts the A/C down and inhibits the compressor. You need to tell us that year and exact model and engine you have before I can identify the location od the pressure switch. Regards Peter

Equally, it could be doing its job and there's another fault such as an auxiliary fan failure which would cause high pressure in the condenser. As Peter says - you need to let us know the model/year to be of more help. If it's a pre 2006 model it's an easy fix to replace (no refrigerant loss) and not very expensive.

Thanks for all the ideas

Looked under the power steering cover, only two connectors there - One seems to go to fan on drivers side, other?? will have a better look tomorrow.

Codes are;

G65 High pressure sensor static open/short circuit to positive
J285 Control module in instrument cluster sporadic no conmm
Instrument scan - Supply voltage terminal 30 sporadic power supply too small

All double Dutch to me so any translation would be good.

Thanks
Paul

I suspect the G65 HP sensor so you need to tell us the year and model. I suspect it will be a bumper off job and the sensor and connector, which may be the problem, is just below the N/S head light. Regards Peter

I've phoned the dealer in Lincoln for a new sensor but they had sold the last one that day - About a week for a new one to arrive, I explained the codes to the chap on the phone and he was most helpful saying that if the car went in with those codes they would replace the sensor under the drivers side headlight and that they don't regas after fitting it.

I'm struggling to find part number on the net for an alternative as £60 at Audi and I've found 2 Audi ones on the net for about £25 - Codes I've found are 1J0 959 126 or 1H0 959 139 - They say they are for an A3 or A4 but chap at dealer said it was a universal fitting across the range so I'm stumped now as both look different.

I guess it may be but dealer one or remove headlight first but that will be a pain unless someone here knows which part I need - thanks all

Oh, forgot to say, I'd hooked up the aux. fan directly to battery and it flew into action so shouldn't be a problem with the fan.

Have you tried GSF and all the other factors? might be worth a shot mate.

Exactly what model/year/engine is your car?

Hi - Thanks for your replies, decided to go for the part from the Audi dealer took about 30 minutes to fit the high pressure eco sensor (including removing drivers side headlight to access sensor) - Very easy job and fixed the problem. Nice cool air again :o)
