View Full Version : The B6 Stance and Picture Thread

I thought it was about time there was a stance thread in the B6 section of the forum. It should prove to be useful for anyone looking to either buy rims, tyres or lowering kits. Even if you have a completely standard stance, tell us about the different tyres you have used and any recommendations. Or just post up a photo of you B6 that you would really love to share!
I'll make a start with my own car.

Rims- 19x9 et41 Bentley Alloys
Tyres- 235/35/19 Vredestein Sessanta
Suspension- H&R lowering springs with standard shocks
I love the ride quality of the car. Not overly firm and hasn't had any effect on the other suspension components. The vredestein sessanta tyres are fantastic. Best tyre I have ever used especially in the wet. Would highly recommend them to anybody.

Your rims look wider than the arches. Will that pass an MOT?
Beautiful though!:p

Actually passed when I had wider rims on at the time! So long as the tyre tread is under the arch and they don't rub you can generally get away with it.

ECS tuning currently have OEM sport springs on off for £26!! I have to find out first if they can do the ones for the diesel engines and if I can strike up a deal with the dealer that they won't void my warranty! They offer 25-30mm lowering. Should be plenty

I have sent them an email and waiting on a response. Listed online and with exchange rate 100% sure is £26! 85% off! It list them for the 2.0fsi and 3.6. As there in the US it doesn't state for the TDI. Think I'm right in saying that the 3.6 is the same as the heavy diesel engines but I'm waiting on conformation.
The killer will be postage. But for a full set of genuine springs at £26 postage shouldn't be an issue!

Same here im about 1-2mpg down but i think the car needs a service and not cuz of the tyres.
Hmmm could be sumthin else effecting it like tyre pressure tyre wieght? Sorry not very helpful just considering the options.

Put 2 of the wheels on last night to see how bad the arch gap is. Have looked at getting genuine springs but after looking at the overall height, I don't even think springs will sit the car where I want it. Will possibly have to get coilovers!

Got the springs ordered! There ment for the 2.0fsi DSG so I hope they will sit at the same height. But they assure they will fit. If they sit lower I'll be very happy. Sit higher and they might need a little "heat" treatment! I also paid a little extra and they should he here next week!
Another plus is I had a quiet word with the head of servicing at my local dealer. He says he will still honour the warranty with them in and my big phat wheels too!!!

I was thinking about putting some 19's on my 'sat wagon, was thinking 18X8.5J up front and 18x9.5J out the back and what a little bit of 'poke' but Im worried about the offset's.
Also what tyres will fit. Was planning on 235/35/19's but does anybody know if 255/35/19's fit on the back?

Front you would need about et35 and rear about et38. That way they will sit flush with the body work. You will also need to be about 40mm down to pull it off with 18s.
255/35/19 will rub on the rear of there on 9.5 rims. I stretched a 235/35/19 over my 19x9.5 rears and it sat very well. Had to put 225/35/19 on the front 19x8.5 so the rear stretch didn't look so out of place.

In my opinion the Passat doesn't suit stretched tyres, they just don't look right on a biggish saloon. Polo/Corsa, and possibly Golf sized hatchbacks get away with them but they just stand out as aftermarket add ons on large cars.
If that's your thing then fine, just think the two above show how bigger wheels and drops should be done.
Me? The ride is already as firm as I want to take it for my daily commut so it'll be staying on standard springs and 17's with 235/45X17's :D

I like my B badges. I've a spare set of centres which I might paint black possibly. I've also a spare set of Bs so I might get some cheap VW badges and put them on.
I use AS G101 at a ratio of about 1/30. Then the detailer put chemical guys was on them and they came up a treat. Wax didn't last long but ita easily applied.

It does look quite good, but you are right could do with a bit more.
I'm still deciding on some 40mm springs and some 19's
g-black
16-09-2010, 10:57 PM
I recon about 25-30mm. It's almost there but just not quite what I want. Spring were cheap so I'm not complaining about that and the ride is excellent. My H&R springs in the old estate b6 were just about right but it sat a little high at the front.
Think I'm only going to be happy with it when i can get it to sit just perfectly and high adjustment is there fore key. Would also lobe to see what it looks like wound right down. Just for the sheer wow factor

With ref to the wheels any wax will burn off very quickly due to the heat. I would purchase some Meguiars next tech wax 2.0 and apply weekly or every 3-4 days like I do :o.
Remember to leave it on for at least an hour before buffing off and apply it whisper thin.
On the little foam applicator pad you would need around the size of a 10 pence piece of product to complete the 4 wheels.
I always use this wax, it looks great on black cars and gives a wet look for weeks.
What are you washing the car with 2 buckets & grit guards? what shampoo are you using?

I think the ride height doesn't look too far off, but in my opinion its the very low profile stretched rubber that looks too skinny.
Were you going for that look or do wider tyres rub due to the Bentley's width/offset.
Cheers

17-09-2010, 09:38 AM
The current Tyres are 225/35 front amd 235/35/19 rear. Reason being that they come of the merc wheels I previously had which were 8.5 front and 9.5 rear. The bentleys are 9 all round. The front Tyres are nearly done, so I'll be putting 235/35/19 nvm on the front. That's the biggest size I can get away with. At the min the rears just catch the carpet liners but I'll soon be cutting that out.
Off work to day so I hope to get a layer or two of wax on, weather permitting!
The estate was down about 40mm and sat just right with the 19" wheels. I'll also add that I never had any problems with the standard shock. Still in 1 price when I sold the car. Probably the only thing still working properly!
dubvrs
18-09-2010, 08:37 PM
Got my coilovers and wheels on today. Well all the springs but one of the reat shock bolts is stuck fast.
Wheels are 8.5x20" ET45 Fox Futura (Warranty returns as there is a bit of corrosion on the spoke faces but for £350 for what should cost over £900) Tyres are 225/35/20.
Coilovers are FK AK Street. Lowered all the way on the rear and 20mm still to go on the fronts. Will need to lift it slightly but glad i went for them.
Was getting dark so pics a bit crap.

Mmmmmm. Lovely!
Was just about to come online and post up my new ideas for my own stance but dubvrs has basically just beaten me to it.
Decided that I'm not happy with how my new car looks, probably because it looks exactly the same as the last car! So it's time for a change!
First thing is I will be selling the bentleys! Decide now is a good time to sell them as there in a good condition. Been looking at something with a dish, possibly a black face. Possibly BBS LM replicas or these...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130432870558&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_5849wt_782
Then with the extra money from selling the bentleys and a few other bits, I'll get some coilovers. I've heard great things about AP so will probably buy a set of them.

The set in looking at has the silver centres with polished lip, 8.5 front and 9.5 rear. The problem is there et45. I would probably be putting on some 10mm spacers so I could get a little poke!
There is a set of bentleys the same as mine on eBay in black. Seller is looking £1600! I would be happy £1200. Much more realistic but still probably to much.

dubvrs
19-09-2010, 09:39 PM
To be honest the 20's just feel like 19's.
The wheels are 8.5x20 et45. They do rub on the back every so often when you hit a pot hole but mostly fine. Fronts carch if you hit a bump when on lock. Will be raising the car slightly when it settles but looks a lot lower than in the pics.

I had them on the last car. Now that I've bought a new car I want it to look different and not like the last car (probably my fault for buying an almost identical car!) so I've narrowed it down to two choices which some opines on would be great.
Firstly the BBS LM replicas.
http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt349/gblackb6/Passat/cfe11b8a.jpg
These are available in 19x8.5 all round or with a 9.5 at the rear.
Or there's these
http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt349/gblackb6/Passat/dbea0afb.jpg
Stance wise they will be pushing the limits, which I love! Fronts are 19x8.5 et30 and rears are 19x10 et35! Combine these with the car being about the same height as dubvrs....

Is there only me that thinks overstretched tyres look cheap and crap? Not only that they have a negative affect on handling.
A friend of mine has a Golf R32 which has been done for the "Euro" look, it's very low with stretched tyres. On returning from a training course one day I overtook him down a B road in my wife's Fabia. You have to ask why he bought a very quick smart looking well handling car and turned it into something that struggles to do more than 40mph unless the road is totally flat.
Anyway rant over. :biglaugh:

I'll just keep them well cleaned and waxed over winter and then take them off in spring for a good cleaning round the back. I was goin to suggest a nice set of staggered BBS wheels but maybe not on a 4mo!
Look forward to seeing how your ar progresses. Hopefullya little faster than mine is!

21 year old, living in NI with a 2.0L turbo doesn't go well with insurance companies even though I've never ha an accident and never claimed in 4 years of driving. Last year was £1200, this year was £950.
On another note sad note, it's going to be another 3 weeks before my new wheels arrive. Already been waiting 4 weeks for them. Can't wait for them to arrive and see them in the flesh.
AP coilovers should be here by the end of next week. The car might be ready by Christmas!

That's pretty cheap! I've just turned 22 this month and I'm paying around £1500 per annum. How did you manage to get the insurance soo cheap?

Slow speeds it's great. Haven't had it with a load of ppl in or had it through a corner hard cause of the snow. Haven't had it out too much and everytime it is the wheels get washed! Haven't had a chance to wax them yet with the cold weather.
Doesn't have any catching or rubbing and I can still get lock to lock. Can't wait till the weather is better so can get the car properly washed and some photos taken. Also want to get silver or chrome centre caps, chrome bolt caps and lock nuts. Also want to paint the hubs black and the callipers dark red or silver.

my guess is 50 front 60 rear? or thereabout?
The reason I asked cause I don't want to drop my car by that much, the guys who ordered the springs and will fit them, said they will lower the car by 20mm. I go on on long journeys, with passengers aboard. Do you think 20mm drop won't cause any harm?
g-black
02-12-2010, 10:46 AM
20mm won't do any harm. I had a full car last night and didn't hear any rubbing! Was well impressed! Only thing I've noticed is the tracking is now out a bit and the steering wheels sits down on the right. A car always needs alignment done after any lowering, but I'll wait till the springs settle first.
Yea I'd guess probably lowered about 50mm. Never really measured it.

Sorry its not a 20 mm drop, it will be 30 mm drop! I looked at the coilovers and they are slighlty on the expensive side, plus I dont want the car to be slammed.

Hi G Black, so you have 16mm spacers fitted? is thst correct?
I wonder how they would look on my sport :biglaugh:.
I guess you have sold the Merc wheels? I love these wheels better than the Bentleys :approve:

Still have the merc wheels. Was able to keep them for now but might sell them soon. See what feedback I get from these first.
The adapters were custom made and yes there 16mm thick. Look like this.
http://i626.photobucket.com/albums/tt349/gblackb6/0893797a.jpg
The studs are 5x120 and the same thread as a range rover hub, so with range rover bolts it's like fitting them straight on!

In order of your wheels so far:

3rd place Merc wheels.
I loved your Bentleys and I think they suited your estate. I think the range rover wheels look great on yours. Hence I WANT!!!! :biglaugh:

I would say they would look good! They are lots of different styles of range rover wheels as they change the style every year. And there really cheap. Now that I have the adapters I've got loads of choice of what to fit next! These wheels were £200 delivered!
rapport25
19-08-2011, 10:12 AM
How much were the adaptors? Without I guess you would have the wheels catching on the calipers etc....
£200 is a bargain!!! How much did the tyres cost?
g-black
19-08-2011, 01:09 PM
I bought 2 continentals and 2 bridgestones part worn for £180 fitted and balanced. Adapters were £235, rangy bolts were £50 and I got the lips polished for £40!
Adapters were essential for the PCD change. But clearance round the brakes is great. Round the arch it's not so much.
